When Bama won’t eat, I put his canned food in a Ninja blender with a little water and sometimes he will then lap it up if I pour it a little at a time into his bowl. Baby food is successful for some cats if you are certain there is no onion in it. Bama would eat it but then later throw up. Could he be nauseous?

I got my cats to eat baby food when everything else failed except for one of my current ones when she wasn’t well. Gerber’s was preferred and ham was the fave once veal was discontinued. Wonder what makes him inappetent? Wonder if a little pancreatitis and nauseous?

I don’t think he is nauseous because he will eat the ham, but I have to give him just a little at a time (as you say above) and he gobbles it down. Thanks for responding, I will try only giving him a teeny bit of watery food and see if that helps.

Has he been acting differently? Sleeping more? Hiding? Throwing up?
No, he sleeps on me (as normal) and on his couch downstairs (as normal) he has quite a travel to the little box from upstairs to downstairs, doing that with no problem and he is not throwing up what he does eat. He is still following me to the kitchen and staring at me. So I just don’t really know what his problem is.

When Max developed pancreatitis he was eating but picky. When someone suggested he might be nauseous I didn’t think he was. Next he turned down canned and would only eat dry. Then one day nothing got him eating. He was nauseous. He never showed any signs of it to me. Never vomited.

If Oliver is acting well in every other way watch for signs of hiding or being distant. Cats hide things too well for their own good. I hope Oliver is just picky and all is well.

Hmmm. Thanks for sharing your experience. I will keep a close eye on him. I hope he is just being picky too.

Wonder if a little pancreatitis and nauseous?

I am gonna have to Google kitty pancreatitis if someone doesn’t give me a layman explanation ;)

I hope Oliver's appy picks up. Here are some tips to get a cat to eat. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Do you have any parmesan cheese? If you maybe sprinkle a little of that on her food, she will perhaps eat? usually ondansetron is better for nausea than cerenia but it doesn't hurt to give her the cerenia....it can help.

Can you finger feed her....either see if she will lick food off your finger or will she let you dab some on the front of her tongue or on the roof of her mouth? Just be careful that it's only a small amount and that you don't get it down her throat.

Here's some info Jill often posts when a kitty won't eat:Here are some things you can do do entice your cat to eat:

-sometimes in order to get a cat to eat you even have to resort to dry it is more important that they eat. there are a couple low carb / grain free brands -- EVO and wellness core.

-making a buffet to give him choices
- heating food

sprinkle food with :
- forta flora -- a probiotic you can get at vets or online. is very smelly and cats love the taste of it.
- parm. cheese
- smashed crumbles of dry food
- Purebites Duck Liver -- crushed and put on as a topper.
- bonito tuna flakes
- halo chicken treats -- crumble into dust over food
- poor a little water from tuna in water over food ( I use low sodium/no sodium added as other kinds in water has veg. broth in it and I assume that means onions, which are toxic to cats-- check labels)
-powdered oregano. yep sounds weird . but some cats like it and it will entice them to eat.

other ideas of foods to offer your kitty to stim appy:
- trader joe tuna for cats
-baby food -- beechnut turkey and broth or chicken and broth. they have no onions or other additives. some babyfoods have onions . please read labels if you can't find beechnut.
- kentucky fried chicken
- deli turkey /chicken
- plain cooked ( boiled or baked ) chicken breast
-canned chicken for people (watch the label that their are no onions)
- chicken broth -- low sodium

I am having the same problem, Shelley. Susie used to always be hungry but now she will only eat a little at her preshots. The only thing that I have been able to do to stimulate her appetite is throw in a couple of Temptations. I know, I'm not supposed to feed dry while on TR. I'm probably going to have to go back to SLGS I am really worried about her but I just had to take my dog to the vet and money is tight. She is not throwing up, no runny poop, no gas. She just doesn't have the appetite she used to. I like some of the things carburby has mentioned and will have to look at them closer tomorrow.

Thank you Carla! He did go for the tuna water yesterday, but only the liquid. I tried Bonito his favorite, no go. I’m going to try the Parmesan cheese and the oregano. This morning he ate thin sliced deli ham, quite a bit, but I had to tear it into tiny bites and feed it to him. This afternoon he won’t even do that!. I’m taking him to a vet tomorrow. My regular vet was full until Wednesday afternoon, and this one is an hour away, but has really favorable reviews. Took a lot of info over the phone like his bg etc. gave me some confidence. Fingers crossed it’s something simple.

Oh, I’m sorry. It’s so hard. And I hear ya about the money. We are on fixed retirement income and these kinds of things can really upset the apple cart!

Shelly, there’s way to much in the primer. Just look at Marje’s explanation for now. He might not even have it. One thing to know before. If your vet thinks it might be there are two blood tests for it. The Snap gives immediate results as it’s done in house. That’s good. Tge bad part is you don’t get a number so if in the gray zone it will come out negative and he still might have it. The Specfpl gets sent out to a lab so the resukrs can take a day or two but no such thing as a gray zone.

Susanne’s link didn’t work for me.

Is he licking his lips at all, or just being a prince about food?
Good luck at the vet tomorrow and keep us updated.

He went for the Parmesan cheese on watery pate. Not much , but I did get something into him.

FortifFlora [Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Supplements] comes in a box of 30 envelopes for around $30 at PetSmart, possibly elsewhere as well. Package says feed one packet per day as a "probiotic supplement for dietary management of cats with diarrhea." I usually stretch out one packet over multiple meals/days as Bama does not have diarrhea. Works better to improve his appetite if only used occasionally and not an everyday thing. Like anything else, it can become associated with not feeling well or feeling nauseous and thereby loses its appeal.

Thank you! Miraculously, he decided to eat this morning. His, AND his sisters as per normal. It’s been several days and now this. Good though, he is still going to the vet.

That’s great. A pancreatitis test will likely only be positive during a flare. If recovered it will be negative. Of course we don’t know if he even had/has it. Vetty vines.

Well, if he’s back to normal maybe. Trust your gut if you think something is wrong. If you think it has passed maybe hold off. How long since last labs? If around 6 months you could see if something else is causing the off and on inappetence.

I think the last labs were about 5 months ago. I’m going to give him some more food and see if there is still some interest. His blood dropped to 88. Which is a good number for him this time of day.
