Hi all! I was told it would be better to ask a question regarding a possible "vacation dose" here. I already made a post in the more general forum with my dilemma: https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/first-time-w-cat-sitter-vacation-dose.252622

To answer a couple questions that might come up: We did purchase an auto feeder and it arrives Thursday. I'm hoping this is enough time to get Taishi used to it. There is a possibility that our friend could come by for a mid-day BG check and, if it's low, stay around to monitor. However, he won't be able to do +2/3s after AM and PM. We've also considered having Taishi go to his house, but I'm worried that might be too stressful for Taishi and our friend's house is not very cat friendly (lots of places he could hide and not be retrieved from).

We will be gone for this Sunday's (Sept 12th) PM dose and for sure Monday (Sept 13th) AM dose. We will be gone most of the day on Monday, but are hoping we can return that night in time for PM (but probably not much earlier). There is a chance we will need to stay Tues (Sept 14th) as well.

We have no control over these plans - we have to travel for a time sensitive, life saving medical procedure - so I'm just looking for advice on dosing for our cat sitter and any other advice/support y'all may have! The reason for travel is stressful enough, so hoping to figure out the least stressful way possible to leave our baby for a day or two <3
 
Just to clarify you are gone from Sep 12th PM dose and possibly till Sep 14th PM dose? Or even Sep15th AM dose?
And I see you posted in your condo in the Main forum that he may not eat too well in your absence.

@tiffmaxee vacation dose of 2U or lower? He has dipped to the 50s on 2.5U so maybe lower?

We'll for sure need help PM 12th, AM 13th... possibly help for PM 13th, AM 14th... should be able to make it home in time for PM 14th
 
I’d try 1.75 two days in advance and see how he does I think. Too many variables and better to be safe.

Thank you for your input! Should we drop down from 2.5 to 1.75 suddenly, or reduce the dose slowly down to 1.75? And when we return... should we increase dose slowly (how slowly?) or jump back up to 2.5 right away? Taishi's numbers have been so good the last couple days. I hope this doesn't cause a huge set back :/
