Burying?

Can you feed him some HC now? If you put 10% in the autofeeder, will he not eat it?
Yeah, burying. He’ll sniff it and then try to bury it like when he goes to the bathroom. I think our other cat taught him. He won’t eat anything now. Not the normal. Not the 10, 15, or 20. We’re going to wait until +2 to leave. I might run to the store and get something else to try.

You can add a little honey to his LC food to increase the carb%.

Did he eat LC at +1?

One of my cats was doing the burying thing when I gave her raw rabbit. She clearly doesn’t like it so I won’t buy it again. It doesn’t happen with any other food.

Our other cat does it with the leftovers after he’s done eating. We think he was a street cat before we got him and it’s some weird instinct he has to hide his leftover food from others. 7 years and he still doesn’t trust food to be there when he returns. Oscar seems to only bury when he doesn’t want it.

Looking at your ss he needs to drain the depot as I understand you go to work tomorrow and will be gone from +1 until pmps. Is that correct? Will anyone be there to feed him or do you use an auto feeder?

Yes that is correct. I can usually come home briefly at lunch but only for about 45 minutes or so. We both work so I use a feeder. I have different options for what to put in it, but usually do their normal LC.

I don't see that suggestion in your condo today? That 39 earlier earned another reduction. Anytime you get under 40 it is suggested to reduce.
Yes, sorry. I was traveling today and think I accidentally ended up asking about it in a message to her instead of here where I should have. Only so much time to post at red lights

Today’s low was from last night’s reduction so depot action. It needs to be drained. I would skip tonight. Then see in the morning whether to take another reduction. Do you have any mc he will eat? I’d still get a +1 and +2. You might even need to keep testing for the first half of the cycle.@Christie&maverick agree?

Yes I have MC. Should I feed that now?

Glad Elise clarified your new routine (aka work). If you aren't able to test much tonight since you need to get some sleep, and just getting a feel when you go back to work when you'll be able to get additional tests, no sense in stressing tonight, you can skip as suggested, and just watch since you may still get more depot action earlier in the cycle.

My understanding is that anytime you get a number under 40, it still earns a reduction, regardless of the depot, but I might be wrong, I often am :p

Since you are skipping you don’t need mc at least not to start. I was thinking about tomorrow and what to put in the feeder.

Work has been the problem all along, except he was so high since diagnosis, it was never really an issue. But it scares me a lot :( I can’t be here to save him if I need to, so he can’t drop so far.

That was my understanding too, or below 50 for a newly diagnosed cat, I read. Although I’m not sure what qualifies as newly diagnosed :)

It is recommended to keep dose advice on the forum, rather than via PM, since this is a peer-reviewed board.

I'm sorry, I know that can be challenging. As long as you can still get some strategic tests each cycle, I think you'll be fine. I often caught a +1 or a +2 if I wasn't sure what my kitty was going to be up to, and left higher carb food if I felt he might have an active cycle. Also depends on how carb sensitive your kitty is, I usually did just fine with higher LC (6-9%) in the feeder, since merely at the smell of MC my kitty's BG levels would usually go up :p

Newly diagnosed is under a year. I think in your case, the question really is does the 39 itself earn a reduction, regardless of the fact that you just reduced the dose this morning and you likely still have depot in play. @tiffmaxee may have some thoughts on that also.

I'll do a little digging, and perhaps in the meantime, @Sienne and Gabby (GA) or @Wendy&Neko may also come by to clarify?

I understand. I just accidentally tapped inbox instead of alerts in my panic. I’ll definitely be more careful in the future. I’m so grateful to everyone who steps in and gives me advice.

It happens :), and not meant as a criticism, it is good reminder for people giving advice also.

Andrea, just a few other things that come to mind. If you could add TR to your signature when you get a moment? And for tonight, on your SS add NS in the dose to show no shot, and change your title to PMBG please, that just shows people at a glance that you didn't shoot tonight.

A couple of suggestions when you get lower numbers for the future. I always found the info here very helpful, I'm not sure if this has been shared with you in the past.

You'll want to increase the frequency of testing when you get a number under 50 to be sure the carbs you are intervening with are working. The sticky suggests every 15-20 minutes, but most definitely don't wait longer than 30 minutes to retest when under 50. When you need to test extra you stack the numbers in the cell so for example today at your +4 tests, just put +4=39, +4.5=60 in the same cell, and manually colour code from the paint icon to show lime green.

I think my title is too long. +3 is 84. Think I’m okay for the night or should I get up to test around +6?

I think you are good. Since you skipped tonight I got more clarification. If at a safe comfortable number at AMPS you do not need another reduction. Had you not skipped tonight you would reduce in the morning. If it’s possible to come home at lunch that would be great.

Hi Christie, just seeing this thread and I wanted to clarify that Andrea did PM me about skipping or taking a larger reduction and I asked her to tag Elise at PMPS and ask what should be done.
She was indeed in a panic because she was not at home today and in true cat form, Oscar picked today of all days to give her an "exciting" cycle!
