9/1 Lion - from 541 to 49 in forty eight hours

I am losing my freaking mind. I am trying to hold at 1.50. Today we just went to 59 and I gave some high carb wet food.

Lion previously started on 1 unit and went up to 2.25 units (I could not shoot evenings at 2.25).

Now he has a FreeStyle Libre and I'm trying to lower the dose and stick with it. Before he had the FreeStyle Libre he could have gone this low and I just didn't know it.

Ugh.

Hi Susan! As others have mentioned on your condo yesterday, Lantus needs consistency. With SLGS you do curves and make weekly adjustments and reductions based on meeting a certain threshold, so I am tagging Wendy and Elise to advise you. Lion's numbers today are a bit low for SLGS, but he could be wonky from all the recent dosing changes. Just want to make sure someone with more experience sees your post today.

Hang in there!

PS - I know there has been some talk about whether you want to do SLGS or try TR? Your signature says SLGS, so is that what you are sticking with for now?

Hi Margaret,

Thank you! SLGS - but it seems like I can't even string together 3 days at the same dose :( SLGS says to drop .25 if kitty goes below 90 mg. And right now I'm thinking I should make a fresh start of it and begin at 1 unit.

I'll see what the PM reading is, but I'm leaning towards 1 unit if I can shoot. I'm not going to be home tomorrow afternoon when he normally has his lows. And I'll be sleeping tonight.

And yes, I will stay consistent!

I appreciate everyone's feedback. And I do hear all of you! As everyone knows, this can just be scary.

I don't want to discourage you, and I know you have a lot going on, but I would stick with Elise's advice. I don't know if you shoot 1U tonight whether it's a good idea to then go back up to 1.25U later - it's just a lot of changes happening very quickly and a 0.5U reduction is more impactful than a 0.25U reduction.

@tiffmaxee can you see what Susan wrote above about reducing to 1U tonight and weigh in on that? She seems concerned about keeping Lion safe and is not able to monitor as she would like. If she does the 1U, should she just stay at the 1U then instead of popping back up to 1.25U when she CAN monitor?

Thanks!!

Looks like tonight was a skipped dose, I see "0" in the dose column. He was on his way up, and at 190 he was almost at the 200 no shoot number we give new members. Given you have the Libre now, you have plenty of data so you could have shot. Chances are he will bounce. One thing you might want to do in the future if you see a number as low as you did on the Libre, is to double check with a manual BG test if you can. The Libres used to read unusually low at low numbers, not sure if they still do.

I agree with Elise on the new dose.

Thank you to everyone for your feedback, help and support. I didn’t feel safe shooting at 190 after he dropped to 59 this afternoon.

I’m going to stay at 1 unit for a week. This has been a hot mess now that I can see all of his lows. I understand he is going to bounce, but at least he will be safe when I am not at home. I may not be at home nearly as much the next 5 days.

I will double check the numbers if he goes this low again. The good news is I did test my old Relion Micro when we got the FreeStyle and the numbers match. So it seems the Relion Micro is giving good numbers.

I have not been able to get enough blood for my new Relion Prime. If anyone could recommend a monitor that needs the same amount of blood as my old Relion Micro (that has control solution) that would be very helpful.

Thank you everyone so much.

Arkray Glucocard01 is made by the same manufacturer as made the Relion Micro. Some people used their test strips interchangeably. I bought an Arkray monitor, which no longer seems to be available.

Thank you Wendy. it's not the strips, it that at times I didn't feel the micro was giving me good results. I'd love to locate a new monitor that requires the same amount of blood. I also posted in the general form, so maybe someone has come across one.

Thank you!

I have a box of Arkray Glucocard Expression test strips I can mail to you if those would work? I bought them by accident.
