Last night she dropped to 79 around +4. Being in the green is good, but the large drops make me nervous, so this morning I only gave her 1 unit. I also fed her all Koha wet food to see how she would react to it.

I wanted to give her 1.5 - but the syringes I got are really difficult to get the tiny measurements since they are made for 30 units. Has anyone used these? I'm thinking they would be easier to fine tune?

I'm also attempting to keep with the pen needles for while she's boarding this weekend. Seems easier to stick with whole units for the time being.

Did you feed her all Koha wet food last night? That might be the reason she dropped into green.

Yes, these syringes are fine. We use 30 unit syringes with half unit marks to dose. Before you draw out the insulin, "prime" the syringe by moving the plunger up and down in the mepty syringe a few times. This spreads the lubricant around and makes it easier to move the plunger in smaller increments. As you get close to the dose you want, try twisting the plunger in a circular motion with a slight upward pressure (rather than just pushing it with your thumb). That helps you squeeze out tiny amounts of insulin as you try to get to the right dose.

Will they be testing her at the vet when you board her?

No last night was still 1/2 which she has been getting the past few days.

Will they be testing her at the vet when you board her?

Yes they will be doing the scans. As long as they use the phone I'm going to provide I should still see the data. I will have some gaps though, as the sensor holds 8 hours of data and there won't be any scans for 13 hours during the night when no one is there. That's what I'm worried about, a drop during the night that no one would know about. During the day should be ok, if the vet isn't there she would be alerted at least.

OK. If she dropped to greens feeding half and half on 2U and you think they may not monitor her round the clock, you may want to either (a) feed her only the dry or (b) think of a lower dose when she is boarded to keep her safe.

Another thing to consider is will she eat well while boarded? I think I would want her to have dry available since she won’t be monitored at night.

She really likes the wet food - I think she will eat as long as they pet her a bit to get her started.

That’s good. One of mine is so shy she would freak. I think I would have them feed wet but leave out dry at night when nobody will be testing. I would reduce the dose also to 1.0 to make it easy for them.

ok. I'll do 1 unit again tonight and see how it goes.
