8/31 Pearl OTJ Trial Days 9/10 AMBG 92, PMBG 107 disaster

Good evening all,

Today has been a bit of a disaster. I came home from work 2 hours ago to find that Pearl had not eaten basically a bite since I left 10 hours earlier (that, or she sneakily ate all of Chessie's hard food left out on the bed, but Pearl actually doesn't really like the hard food). And there was poop. Everywhere. I won't go into details much, but it was the worst poop experience I have ever had with Pearl. Lumpy, smeary, EVERYWHERE. On her butt. In the living room. Hallway. Kitchen. Stairs. Cat beds. Human bed. It was disgusting.

As I raced around the house cleaning (and am still finding more spots even now as I write this), Chessie decided to hop up on the bed next to her food dish and sit down right in the middle of the bed mess. So I guess that answers my question - Pearl did NOT eat the hard food. (But why was Chessie sitting in the mess??! Ugh).
And she still isn't eating. I administered sub-q, and I got her to accept a few fingerfuls of Gerber Turkey, but her usual yummy beef and treats is NOT tempting her at all.

With all of this in mind, I was quite shocked her PMBG was only 107. I was expecting it to be a LOT higher. I am not concerned she is having a remission issue with her 107 BG. I don't know if it will go back down tonight though, if I can't get this cat to eat something.

I think between this and all the Pred days - if she can bounce back down onto the Greens, she's got this!

I don’t think she’s having a remission issue. Poor baby. I wonder what caused the loose stool though. I hope it’s a one and done.

Thank you! Me too. It’s not like Pearl not to eat this is very unusual. I did assist feed 40ml just now but she growled the entire time. Think I might treat this akin to pancreatitis flare and administer buprenex a little later see if that helps her at all.

I was thinking pancreatitis too. Is she already getting cerenia or ondansetron?
Yes she has Cerenia on board daily. If yes Pancreatitis this does worry me a smidge it’s been a long time since an episode like this so of course I wonder if coming off the insulin whacked out her pancreas??

Oh no. Did she step in in on her way out of the litter box? Did you scream or cry, or both? Do you have wine?

Sounds like the worst day ever. The Gerber Turkey is 11%, right? Can't believe she didn't want it. Eat, Pearl!

Poor Pearl. :( I feel your pain with poop everywhere. I know exactly what that is like. I see you lowered her pred dose. Could the flare be a result of that?

Hope she feels better and eats for you, Margaret. :bighug:

I don’t have any idea what the Gerber is but I assume high carb bc right now she is at 124 with a few bites of that. I did syringe some of her usual food in also so now she has a little on her belly so I hope to have a more accurate BG picture in a couple hours. Thankfully no she didn’t step in it and track out of the box, nope this was all dropping and butt wiping as she went along sigh.

The Pred I usually notice with increased asthma. This is the first problem like this in a very long time. I was assuming I would notice the Pred effect in her breathing which has been quite good, but maybe you’re right idk. Her IBD is usually pretty mild. I will think on this!

I wonder if the pred is doing double-duty working on the asthma and the IBD. Hard to know.

Her BG is still in the blues - 116. I don't know what I am expecting after all the trauma and drama of this evening. She is probably still high from the Gerber and the Ranch/Meadow LC hasn't even kicked in yet.

So I guess tonight's readings are just a wash. I will force feed her more now, and in the morning before testing. I don't know that I can get up in the middle of the night to feed her, so her AMBG reading might be a few hours late (after I force feed her).

Glad she just had a good one…that must have been a sight to come home to
Just awful! And scary. On this day last year her BFF Whisper (black cat in profile pic) was hospitalized and flew a few days later, on Pearl's birthday. So I have been freaking out a little if this is a bad Pancreatitis attack and how bad it could get, Pearl just isn't herself at all. She might even sense my tenseness and be reacting to that on top of everything. Ugh.

Oh man! So sorry to hear that for both of you! Are you giving any laxatives? Koda had a somewhat similar incident about a week ago (not quite as bad). Either he had too much Miralax or his pancreatitis or possibly undiagnosed IBD caused it. Man did it STINK in the house for quite awhile even after I cleaned it all up (as much as I could find with some dripping out of his butt everywhere). :arghh: I probably should write it down to keep track in case it ever happens again.

Temp won't eat the Turkey, but iirc it's the same as the Ham which is 11%. The Beef is 13%. Glad you could get some food in her, poor baby.
Ugh. Maybe she had a dangle berry. I won't ask how much of your house is carpeted...
