8/31, Susie, 191 AMPS, 122 @+2, 96 @+3, 81 @4.2

Susie had a great day yesterday. I see she went a bit higher last night so you were able to sleep.

Cats usually don't eat as much when they are in good numbers. I can tell her body is getting used to it due to the bounces getting shorter and shorter.

I will be watching to see where she lands on her next test.

Hi Mandy. She came down a little more at 4.2 but she was fed at +3. So far, so good. I keep waiting for the bounce because I know it is going to happen :arghh:

Morning Summer, looks like another great day so far, I hope Susie stays in the high greens for you. She had such a beautiful cycle yesterday. No bouncing Susie :cat:
I hope you all have a good day Sumner :bighug::bighug::bighug:

WOW! Susie is looking great!

I see what you mean about giving her a break from testing, but I would be careful here - sometimes at these times kitty likes to take it down below and go visiting the sharkies! Steady as she goes there Susie...no shark chasing!!
Thanks, Sue. That is why I did so much testing yesterday. Susie can be very unpredictable. Poor cat. Her ear needs a break. She is already on her way up. Just hope she doesn't want to fly with the hawks now.

:D:cool::D:cool: She's doing great!!
Mandy, do you know anything about weight loss in a diabetic cat? I could tell Susie has lost a little weight but I had been having a hard time with my scales. I finally figured it out and Susie has lost 12 oz since August 9th. Do you know if this is a safe weight loss or I should be concerned? As a comparison, she was 15.20 lbs in December when she was first diagnosed. So, about 2 lbs in 8 months. Sounds safe enough to me. Her first vet, in December, wanted her down to 10 lbs which I have always thought was too little. I wanted 12 lbs. I guess we are doing okay.

By the way, I just looked at Rex's OTJ party video. A beautiful cat. Looked like one big snuggly furball. I am so sorry for your loss on 6/11 :(

Rex did go down a lot at the beginning of his diabetic journey. He used to be fat at 21 pounds and it was hard to get him to lose weight. At diagnosis, he was 16 pounds, but still waddled. His vet thought 16-18 was good. I didn't agree because I could tell Rex struggled to be active so he would get little spurts of energy then rest all day. When he went down to 14 pounds, he played so much more. However, with cats, you don't want them to lose weight too fast or liver issues can be risked. Maybe someone else can chirp in on the safe amount in however long cats can lose. I cannot think of it off-hand.

I would suggest to keep weighing her on a more regular basis. Make sure she's not losing more than 1 or 2 ounces a week. If it's more, you might want to adjust the amounts you give her.

As for your question about feeding, I have noticed that the double dip is brief. She usually heads up a little bit for PMPS. It's your call. If she's hungry, give a teeny bit so she will eat for sure at PMPS.

Thanks, Mandy. My gut feeling is/was not to feed now. I want her hungry at PMPS especially if she does go lower. I have never (I don't think) been faced with the low preshot where the "stall, without food, and retest in 20 minutes" thing takes place. I keep wondering where her bounce is? Maybe we are truly at a turning point but I know as soon as I think that, and say that, she will bounce. Thanks so much for your advice. About the weight and the feeding. Regarding the weight - this is concerning considering she lost .12 oz since August 9th. Her appetite has just not been the same with these lower numbers and she is looking like she is getting skinny. She just had full labs/urinalysis in July. The labs were pretty good compared to a few months ago. It is always the urinalysis that bothers me. My vet says "Don't worry". Sometimes, I wonder if they even bother to pay attention.

I won't feed. Getting late now anyway. I'll just hope she stays up for her preshot. Thank you!

She's becoming regulated so her body is utilizing the food better so she doesn't need as much. But you said she is losing weight. You need to look at her body and think, "Is that healthy looking? Are bones sticking out anywhere? Is the spine bumpy or fairly padded?" It's not always about the numbers.

I will try and check at PMPS. I'm usually offline, but I'm curious what it will be! You are doing good and it shows with Susie.

@tiffmaxee I am two hours away from shot time. Should I fed Susie a little l/c? She is double dipping today.

Sorry I wasn’t around to answer. She should be okay to shoot.

That is a little more weight loss that I would expect. It’s not so accurate with a regular scale. I have a digital baby scale so very accurate. The weight like us will also vary depending on when she last peed or pooped and when she last ate. Like with everything else don’t base her weight on one reading. I’d start weighing weekly before eating.

Don't worry about sticking around for me. I know you have a life now. We will be okay. Everyday is a new learning experience for me.

Thanks, Elise. I have the baby scale too. It is a Beurer. I am looking at Susie's general appearance. She looks skinnier and her coat is duller. I wonder if all of this is tied to lower numbers and her lack of an appetite. I wonder if there are any studies to indicate that lowering a cats glucose can affect the overall physical appearance. Especially with the loss of an appetite. Just a thought. I do not want to sound like a "Debbie Downer" but I liked it better when she was hungry.

I'm going to try to get a few pictures of her tomorrow. When she is lying down she looks fat. When I look at her from above she has lost weigh right in front of her back legs, in her stomach area. She is looking skinny. I don't want to take anymore or anyone's time. Thank you, Elise, for the chart. Looking at the front of these cats they do all look healthy. Looking down on Susie she looks skinny.

I definitely see a waist behind her ribs (overhead). This is my concern. It seems a little "sucked in". My good camera needs the batteries recharged. My ancient flip-top phone does not take good pictures. I guess that she is okay. All these articles make it sound like being obese is so much worse. She is not obese.

By the way, she was at 72 at PMPS. Very similar to last night. Hopefully, she will start coming up slowly tonight and I won't have a long night testing her. Of course, I will get the +2 and a +3 if I am concerned and one more test of the night if I feel it is needed. Thanks, Elise and Mandy for your support. Really surprised I have not seen a bounce yet.
