I ended up going with 1 unit this morning per yesterday’s condo and based on how low George has been going. He was in the blues this morning so I was really debating as to whether to give him 1.25, but since we’re leaving in five days I’d like to start seeing how he does on 1 unit to get a better idea of what the vacation dose should be.

I would have kept the 1.25 until two days before you leave, a drop under 50 or a low green preshot. Let’s see if the 1.0 sticks and I am wrong.

I’m stressed that I have to leave him, and also stressed that I might’ve done the wrong this morning. I guess I could take him back up to 1.25 tonight if his numbers don’t look good?

I’m sorry. That was not my intent to worry you. He’s looking good even with the reduction. Id stick with this until you get home unless he really spikes which I seriously doubt will happen. How long will you be gone? Again I’m so sorry. :bighug:

That’s ok, it’s not you…I’ve been stressed about having to leave him for days. It just seems like really bad timing, especially with his recent progress and all of the work it’s been to keep him over 50 some of these last few days, but unfortunately it’s not something we can get out of. We will be gone for just over a week actually. Leaving on Saturday the 28th and then won’t be home until late the following Sunday (so I won’t give him another shot until Monday the 6th after that). I was telling Bhooma about all of our struggles to find a cat sitter last week. We have someone who can stay with him and give the injections but not test (added stressor).

Looks like he's going to have a day in blues just to add to the stress and doubt!
Give it 4 cycles on the dose before you take it back up.

That’s what I was thinking! It’s kind of looking like am of 8/18 which may mean that he’ll stay flat alllll day  I’d rather his cycle tell me something (but maybe that means I’ll get to sleep tonight?). I was planning to get a +5 next just to see if he decides to take it another direction.

Seems like the insulin all of a sudden kicked in between +4 and +5 (happily). He’s eating LC now.

@tiffmaxee George is at 51 at +7…should I see where he goes on his own without feeding any MC to see if he actually earns this reduction from 1.25 to 1?

Stick with the 1U dose. How thrilled did you get to see that 51? :D
SO happy he didn’t stay flat in the blues today! He had me fooled that he was going to all the way through the +4!

I thought about not giving the MC so we could see if he would make the reduction we took today official, but I gave in…it does look like the MC has been working more the past two days after not seeming to do much of anything for a while.

Yes and you want to be more conservative with travel around the corner. Especially if he is in a mood to earn reductions every 4-6 cycles - we don't know that yet but need to be sure.

Haha :D I know I totally gave in earlier. Glad for the lime tonight!
I didn't realize you were going out of town. George can't be pulling these shenanigans while mom is away.
Did you find a vet tech, or just a really really good friend?

I know, I’m like I realllly wish we didn’t have to leave right now! Makes me nervous, plus I really want to be here while he’s making progress. I had seriously so much trouble finding someone to watch a diabetic cat. We ended up finding someone on Rover (after a lot of attempts). She seems great, but no blood testing…hoping I can teach her how in the future though (and that he will learn to let other people touch his ears).

I would be terrified. Cameras to watch him? We would put our Nest cam in front of his feeder when we left.
And yeah, some serious FOMO if she reports that he's peeing less and drinking less. But it sounds like you're as set as you can be. Rover is a petsitting app? Good that you're in a big city.
No chance in getting pad tests? I'm sure you've mulled everything over...

Yep! We seriously tried everything to find a sitter who could do the injections, so seriously hoping this works out. She can over to practice giving George his shot last Monday, and that’s actually when he earned his first reduction after, so I was happy to know that she was definitely able to get it in and not a fur shot!

Oh gosh no, I wish, but he won’t even let me touch his paws without getting feisty. He’s fantastic for me for ear pokes…it started off terribly, but we’ve had a lot of practice now so we have a system…but if anyone else tries to touch his ears and poke he’s a bit of a terror. I was telling Bhooma that my husband can do it very occasionally (George is obsessed with my husband), but even with him he loses patience and doesn’t tolerate it if it takes more than one poke. Sigh…I just need more time to teach and work with someone/let them practice.

Well that's a relief the sitter did good in front of you. She was probably sweating bullets and it will be just fine then when the parents aren't standing over her shoulder.

Well George is a cat alright. That's funny he won't let dad do pokes the same was as mom. They are funny like that.
Temp won't ask for food from dad unless he's really hungry, but the second I walk in the door it's meow meow meow. Same with pooping. He waits for me to be around to watch. :banghead:

That’s so funny, George is exactly the same! He can be sitting in the living room with my husband but will come into the bedroom and jump up by my head to wake me up for food rather seeing if my husband will get it for me…it’s like he doesn’t know he is capable of doing the exact same thing haha.

I think they have trained us better and they know we will get that fresh food out faster. Which is funny because my husband will do a whole little routine, where he gives a couple choices and lets Temp pick.
Just put the food on the damn plate human slave!
