Sending healing prayers to all the kitties and their caretakers that are not feeling their best


I am struggling with cat treats, AGAIN. On every freeze dried single ingredient cat treat, the guaranteed analysis goes from 13+ carbs down to 1 carb. I am trying to find a treat for Dolly other than her expensive Life Essentials freeze dried chicken treats but I am confused as to the carb content on some of the others. I don’t understand why the carb content is so different, Pure Bites Chicken is 16% carbs if I am computing it correctly. She is not doing well with testing so rewards are important. Thanks.

Adrienne I just did a search on the forum and found this posted by a member


Pure Bites freeze dried chicken are all protein. There are no carbs added.
If you buy a small bag and Dolly likes them I see members have posted they then buy the same ones for dogs it's a much bigger package, they then just break them into smaller pieces

The popular treats tend to be freezer dried proteins. They are zero carbs -- as long as you make sure that the only ingredient is a protein

Thanks so much Diane. Have an appt (s) so will write later. They all say one ingredient, protein, chicken, duck liver, etc but guaranteed analysis is different, so confused . You are the best and I appreciate all you do!!!

They may not. I don’t know if I am computing anything right or if I just need to go by one ingredient, whatever protein it is. Dolly hates Pure Bites

I have a hard time trusting the ingredients lists on cat treats aside from Pure Bites. Orijen tends to increase Ruby's BGs. The only kind of treat I give her that won't affect her BGs or give her tummy trouble is one or two Dr. Elsey's low carb kibbles.

Hi Katherine. Orijen raised Dolly’s BG as well. She loves these VitalCat duck liver treats and it doesn’t seem to raise her BG. She’s had them before. Why I question is because of the guaranteed analysis. If we determine carbs in cat food by that, why are treats different. I understand they all say, the ones I’ve purchased, single ingredient. I’m just confused and worry like you about the honesty of ingredients listed or not…..

So sorry Ruby is having the continued constipation issues. Poor thing, not a good feeling for anyone. I hope the business trip was enjoyable and sorry you have so much to figure out to keep Ruby in safe numbers. I wish I had something to offer other than prayers to the Gods of the intestinal track. I’ve watched you perform miracles and figure out what to do for Ruby. I hope enemas are not ever necessary again. I hope Olive is being extra kind to her sister. Take care Katherine. Get some rest.
