Hey there! I need some advice regarding Kitty's insulin. When she receives 1.25 she seems to get into the normal readings and then I reduce to 1 and she goes back into the 300/400's. I was wondering what her dosage should actually be maybe? Could I do 1.25 in the mornings and 1 in the evening? Would that maybe help her regulate better?
The b-12 has given her some life back! She's had more days where she feels like herself than other and she's stopped pooping outside the litter box but still pees outside of it. Thankfully it's staying contained to her litter box area for now! I feel if I could just get her numbers under control, this could all slowly get so much better but her numbers are literally all over the place. And I've been bouncing back and forth between 1.25 and 1 for awhile now. My insulin needle doesn't show 1.125 otherwise I would try that for her! She still drinks quite a bit of water which is expected with her numbers and I've been taking away her dry food now so she can finally get on the road to recovery!

Let me know your thoughts!

Cats bounce from a lower bg than they are used to. The more time in normal the less the bouncing for most cats. A normal nadir is a good start but in between she’s above normal too much of the time. Once you totally remove the dry food you might see big changes but that can take awhile. You would then be able to move to TR and increase more rapidly. Normal bg is roughly 50-100.

Lantus likes consistency so giving different doses morning and night doesn’t work well. Cats often naturally are lower at night.

They don’t make syringes with smaller than .50 markings. To make it worse the syringes aren’t so accurate. One syringe to the next can vary by .25. That’s why many of us use digital calipers to get consistent dosing. I’ll link a video that explains.

She’s too new to fd to do anything but follow one of the methods. They are tried and proven. Some cats become diet controlled quickly but not all. Fir most it’s a marathon rather than a race which is why patience pants are mentioned a lot around here. Most cats bounce around between doses as they get used to normal bg. It’s part of fd that is so frustrating.

Definitely understanding the bounces now! Gotcha on the TR.

Never actually heard of the digital calipers for insulin! Worth a shot!

I definitely understand the patience part. What would be your recommendation? When she drops down below 90 decrease her dose or should I hold it for a few days and see what happens? I know not to dose her if she is at a certain number and of course to wait 20+ mins to see if she rising, etc. But it seems she does better at regulating at 1.25 vs 1U.

BTW they also can bounce from dropping too fast.

Is she eating any dry food at all? That’s the only way that you can hold a dose if under 90. If no fir how long has she been off dry? If yes will you stop feeding it?

Yes I know she bounces from dropping fast as well. She will hover in the 200s then all of a sudden be in the 100s then she's back up to 400. It's a cycle I keep seeing repeat itself. I'm just trying to help her stop repeating that cycle of course!

She eats her wet kitty food every morning and I put out the hard food for all the other kitties too. I pick it up after about an hour or so to make sure everyone got what they needed for food. As for Kitty, she is so full she doesn't even pick at the hard food between that hour. She ignores it entirely. I started doing this on Saturday I believe it was.

She also eats her wet kitty food at night lol I didn't mean to make it sound like only morning! The other kitties are starting to adjust to the feeding times which is nice. I'm hoping Kitty gains all her weight back soon then maybe it won't seem like I'm feeding her so much food! Speaking of that, would it be better to feed her throughout the day or just one meal twice a day?
