yesterday: stuck in the pinks again https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...11-10-399-pmps-374-0-25-r-2-338-4-310.251256/

This is the longest Oberon's been stuck in the pinks for quite a while. I think we'll just have to wait it out for now. I'm heading out of town later today (back Sunday or Monday) and Tim will be handling everything while I'm gone. I haven't shown him how to measure out R yet, so no R for the next few days and the current L dose has been bringing him into the low greens when he isn't bouncing, so I don't think we're ready to increase just yet.

I'll be checking in occasionally and Tim will be posting here if he needs help. He'll be home the whole time so we're not planning to do any vacation reductions like last time.

Hi all; Tim here. It's been quite a ride over the past 18 hours. Fortunately DO (Dearest Offspring) was here to help out with the overnight portion. 70 struck me as just high enough at AMPS to go ahead and shoot, but I'll be checking him again at +1 to make sure. (He moved away enough during the shot that it was a slight FS, but not much -- and given how low he's running that's probably not a terrible thing anyway.)

Fingers crossed that today is easier!

So much for that. He's been in the greens since 4 a.m., and is now hanging out in the limes with 37. I'm loading him up with higher-carb food and am checking every half hour. This cat's on a mission, and I think it's to drive me nuts. :banghead:

Hi folks,
He'd made his way back up to 71 and I was hoping we were through this, but now he's abruptly back to 31, which is the lowest reading we've ever had.

I gave him some 20% with honey, and will check him again in about 20 minutes to see if that's brought him up. I'm concerned, though; do I need to get a vet involved here at some point?

Thanks!

Ok, looks like you are back up to 71 at last test, and yes to the reduction earned. I’m not so familiar with high dose kitties, so the depot is a little trickier. Is Lisa still out of town?

He's been back up to 71 and now 73 as of a few minutes ago, so the worst is certainly over ... I hope.

(And yes, Lisa's still out of town -- she'll be back either late tomorrow or sometime Monday.)

I am starting to wonder about this evening's shot, though. Thoughts from the experts, given the day?

Back in May, you should a half dose on a reduction earning cycle. 5/10. It might not be a bad idea to drain it a little and then go 5.5 in the am? Again, I am not an expert at the higher doses.

I would not decide on a dose until closer to shot time. With IAA, you need to get ahead of the antibodies. I'm concerned that by dropping the dose too much, the antibodies will be back in force.

Thanks, all. It's now much closer to shot time, and he was back down to 57 at +11. Lisa and I have spoken, and agreed that skipping the shot makes sense. I'll check him at +12, then DO will check him a few times at night, so we'll be fine. I understand about the antibodies, but considering that he's now been in the greens or the limes for at least 15 hours and we're down one tester, I'm exercising the better part of valor. Thanks again!

It does look like it has been a day for sure with all those greens and limes o_O

Well done Tim and DO on steering well! :cat:

Nothing to add but moral support. Oberon really puts the shenanigans on big time for you, Tim! Trying to teach Lisa not to go away?? Hang in there!

Checkin in here from a couple of states away... see, I knew he'd pull this stunt while I was gone again! He's coming up now even before the effect of the skip kicks in, so everyone's getting a break until Tim does his usual +8 (or +20 this time) check.

This cat is on a serious mission. After AMPS above 400, he's been back in the low greens for the past two checks. Giving him some carbs to stop the plunge where it is, but this is ridiculous. I don't want to do a second skip, but if he hangs in the greens and limes for the rest of the time between now and PMPS, I may have to. Thoughts welcome!

Something to think about. I know you've been doing the 3 times between 40-49 or once under 40 for a reduction. But the last few times, after holding the dose for a visit to the 40-49 range, he's come back with a really long protracted visit to low greens and the 30's. Maybe time to reconsider the reduction criteria and experiment to see if he holds reductions at once under 50?

Hopefully the reduced dose gets you some sleep.

Lisa here (still checking in remotely, but coming home tomorrow)... Not a bad idea. Once the school year starts in a few weeks (eek!) I'll be out of the house more and it'll be tougher to deal with these dives. The questions is whether he'll hold the reductions. He seems to have a fine line between too much and not enough. But it also looks like he might be sliding down the scale fast again right now, so I think we should try this.
