8/13, Susie, 189 AMPS, 173 @+1, 57 @+3, 51 @3.7, 58 @4.2, 93 @5.5

57 at +3. This is a good test for me this morning. I have to learn to bring her up quickly when I have to leave the house. I may have "blown" this cycle by giving her 1 TBLS of h/c but I need to leave in 1 hour and 20 minutes. I know that this is an appt. that I can cancel if I have to. I'm sure the vet will understand but may not be too happy. He is the best vet in the clinic and it can be hard to get an appt. with him.

Seems the m/c doesn't really help bring her up anymore. It is 13%.

51 at +3.7 :arghh:. Just gave her another TBLS h/c. The first was 16%. This one was 20%. If she is not up, substantially, at +4.2 I will cancel my appt.

I pray you are right, Marina. I don't want to cancel this appt. She just came up to 58 and this was after 1TBLS of h/c. I just gave her another TBLS of h/c with a blob of honey. I have to leave in 15 minutes. Stressful, to say the least. Might give her a few Temptations before I go. That will make her happy.

Morning Summer, isn't that the case when ever you have an appt, I hope you can make the vet appt, just carb her up if you must go ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:
That is exactly what I did, Diane. Carbed her up. She went all the way up to 93 at +5.5. So happy I made Molly's vet appt though. I would not have done anything differently although I probably "blew" this cycle. The vet was very accommodating and knew I needed to get home soon. Thanks for popping in, Diane. I hope all is well with you, Ashley, your Dad and Tyler.

Glad you made the appt, what did Molly have to go for

Good morning Summer. Great job at getting Susie safe so you could get to your vet appointment, hope all went well. Hope your mom is improving and feeling better. There is rarely a time in the late morning that if I have to leave, that Dolly doesn't low. These kitties will do anything to keep us home :p Hope you have a good rest of your day Summer. Surf safely Susie, moms home :).

I'm so glad you and Dolly had some real quality time yesterday, Adrienne. Your note on the spread sheet sounded very special. Hope you have another wonderful day with your girl. Yep, our kitties always like to throw us off - don't they? Always so sweet of you to stop by.

Same thing happened with Fred yesterday, except I had to leave by +2. Frist AM blue EVER on Lev. I REALLY blew the cycle but que sera. I'll get him back on track. (as much as "on track" as Fred ever is :-))

Hope Susie is back on track!

Hi Kathleen. I see your blue AMPS yesterday. That did kind of come out of nowhere although it is not like Fred isn't seeing any blues. It sucks when you have to leave the house. Your poor Freddie is all over the place. I know you must be frustrated. Let me ask you a question. Have you noticed any improvement with the switch from Lantus to Levemir? I didn't really look back too much at your spread sheet but I am curious. I think about switching myself from time to time.

Hi Summer. I definitely have seen an improvement on Levemir. The main benefit is that his curves tend to be much more predictable...i.e. actual "curves", with the AM and PMPS very nearly always higher than his nadir. (except yesterday, of course!) So that predictability has helped a great deal.

The Levemir is stronger in Fred, in that it can get him down to blue almost every day, except when he's really bouncing. With Lantus, he'd be all over the place. Conversely, because he's such a bouncer, he goes way down and way up each day, and that can be hard on him. But, his drinking and urine output has completely normalized, and they were both extensive right up to the switch. So though he has really ugly numbers..usually each day ....I may not be catching all the GOOD numbers that have helped him normalize in that department. He's also on much less of a dose..on Lantus, he was at 8u BID. He now floats around 4.5/4.75u BID of Levemir.

The negatives: The later onset and later nadir. If he's high, he'll stay that way for about 4 hours. That sucks. And for me personally, it's essentially impossible for me to get his nadir in the PM cycle, due to my schedule.

The neutral: As I mentioned above, the Lev has an ability in Fred to seriously yank him down from high numbers. But that can be scary if he's dropping too fast, too early. I know how powerful it can be in him, which is why I am generally very conservative if I see a lower number. I'm terrified of hypos b/c Fred does not really respond to carbs, and very minimally to Karo. So if he's down, he's down.

All food for thought! :cat:

All good information. I have always heard that the Lev brings on later nadirs and that is the main reason why I am hesitant to switch. I probably wouldn't mind them in the am cycle but it is really difficult for me to get up really late at night (or should I say early in the morning) because it is harder for me to go back to sleep. Susie is a bouncer too but she doesn't usually bounce into pinks and reds although we have had a few pinks recently.

That is really scary that Fred does not respond to carbs. How in the world do you get him up without the help of carbs? I don't blame you for being terrified of hypos. Well, I am happy to hear that you think the Lev was a good switch. Hey, hang in there. This diabetes disease is a nightmare but when we love our babies we LOVE our babies and do all we can to keep them safe and healthy - even if it can drive us nutty! :banghead::banghead::banghead:

There is nothing wrong with aborting the cycle by feeding HC if you have to leave. I'm glad you were able to get Molly to her appointment. I hope it went well. I hope Susie keeps surfing safely.

Thanks, Carla. Better safe than sorry. I have no regrets and this was a good learning experience for me. There WILL be times when I have to leave my house and would rather her be "high for a day than low for a moment". :)

I'm so glad you dropped in, Melissa. I was thinking about you and Mr. Kitty and his miraculous turn-around with the diabetes. Just what do you owe this change too? How is he doing now?
We just really lucked out that he's an acro cat that responds really well to cabergoline!

The pancreas in acro cats is usually still fully/mostly functional, but the tumor secretes a hormone that blocks the body's natural insulin from being used. The medication supposedly slows down or stops that hormone so their natural insulin can get in.

How did it go at the vet with Molly?
Molly did really well. I has amazed me that my oldest girl, who has basically gone a little beyond the expected life expectancy for a golden, is doing so well. I am so grateful. She has been my companion through thick and thin. She was with me during the loss of my husband. She has tolerated many other pets coming and going and she is still standing when others have passed. I love Susie but I don't have the same bond with her that I have with my Molly Pop. I am grateful that she is doing so well. Thank you for asking, Suzanne.

Wow, this is still a mystery to me. So, in other words, if Mr. Kitty hadn't been diagnosed with the acro, and you had not started the cabergoline, then he might still be taking massive amounts of insulin twice a day?

Oh. She is really special!!
