Awesome! We're getting there. I think when he's switched to 100% new low-carb food we should have readings under 100. He's only at 25% RN, switching to 50/50 tonight. Considering I don't have syringes though, I don't know if I should give him 1U this morning or not. We're really slacking on that part. :|

Is it normal for their ears to look abused when you test? :(

We're doing our best to miss the vein, shooting between the ear edge & vein but he's still bruising pretty significantly. He doesn't seem hurt by it after the fact, but it feels so bad to poke him where I can see bruising forming.

Edit: Fiance accidentally left Lancet on 10 the other day and gave him a piercing as well as her finger LOL. We cleaned it with alcohol and are looking out for infection. This whole process is a pain but I'm glad we're fortunate with his numbers being what they are.

It may be a good idea to skip since you can't shoot less than 1U. You'd basically be doing what you normally do in the PM cycle but in the AM one today since you shot in the PM and not AM! :-)

If you hit the marginal vein there is some bruising but otherwise not. Do you keep cotton (or gauze) between your finger and his ear to act as a buffer?

It was one of our first times, didn't know about the buffer LOL.

We now use paper towels/napkins between his ear and our hand to use as a buffer as well as allow us to put more pressure against the ear for the lancet to get a good first poke.

We've since turned it down to 3 when I do it and 4 when she does it. 3 takes a bit of time for the blood to pool, 4 makes a nearly instant drop but I feel 3 is more comfortable. I also have instilled in her to change the lancet after one poke because it tends to get messed up even after 1 poke and hurts more.
