I was laughing about this too - couldn't believe these numbers! Yes, we are both able to be here with her all day and we have lots of low carb and higher carb food, honey and testing supplies. (Also, some nerves but I guess that's to be expected.)
 
Nice seeing those blues, Jessica. Don't forget to enter the info in your spreadsheet. I don't see anything for the 12th.

It can be stressful shooting your first blue but you will get used to it. Eventually, you will be shooting greens.

Hi Bhooma - yes, we just got +2 - 69 on libre and 91 on one touch. The libre has been giving us errors almost since AMPS and we have never had so much trouble getting manuals from Callie before. We tried for a +1 but gave up after we couldn't get enough blood and she was getting really upset. We changed locations to do the +2 (couch from counter) and think that it will work better going forward.

She did eat a bunch of LC food in the last 10 mins. Should we feed higher carb or test again at +2.5?

Ok, she's eating that now. I usually do her inhaled med at around 11 am (30 mins from now) and she gets a freeze dried rabbit or lamb treat with that. All ok to do as normal? We can get +3 right after.

Edit: we also give her a teaspoon of pure pumpkin - ok or hold off on that?

Unfortunately, I've been getting errors on libre again since the 68 at about +2.5. I will download to see if there were any automatic readings that weren't errors. (14 days on the libre is tomorrow -- I am surprised it is even giving us anything at this point.)

Action shot of Callie playing with string after we did the +3 :joyful:. She seems to be feeling good. She's now getting some much earned rest. Should we get a +4 on one touch?

Will get +4.

Just checked automated readings - libre got a 77 about 10 mins before we got the one touch 106 at +3. So it is definitely still reading lower at lower #s but not as big a difference as the other night.

Yes. The thing I am not sure of is this: how much is that because of the teaspoon MC food and if that caused the slight increase, would we expect that she bounces right back down quickly again or could it hold? From what I have read, I guess every cat is different? I am still "learning Callie" in all this....

Yes. How a cat reacts to carbs is affected by many things - how early (or late) in the cycle the carbs were fed, how carb-sensitive the cat is for straters. With time you get to understand what works for your cat. :-)

That's what I thought...

131 on the one touch @ + 4. It was another tough one --I think all BG and blood pressure is up for all of us involved :( (We just ordered larger lancets which will hopefully help.)

Sounds good. She's sleeping now and has her regular low carb food out. Is there a specific time that we should try to make sure that she eats some if she hasn't on her own? (She has eaten a good amount already today.)
 
118 @ +6. It looks to me like Callie's nadir is around +8 lately (but am not sure if that will hold.) Since she is a little down from her +4 now, should we take a +7 or +8 or is she okay until PMPS?
 
You could get another test in a couple of hours, but she's largely flat so if testing her is an issue, you can wait till PMPS :-)

I do have one more question about calculating carbs -- from Dr. Pierson's food chart, it looks like the Instinct Limited Ingredient Rabbit wet pate has 13% carbs (that's what we've used as "MC") But I just found this and completelyconfused myself: https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/calculating-calories-from-carbohydrates.205128/ When I do the calculation of % calories from carbs, it is much higher than 13% (like 35+%). I should go by the 13% for purposes of considering it MC, correct?

It's unlikely that there could be that much of a difference. I'm going to bed now, so I'm tagging @PerfumedCatMom to help you with this.

i see you struggle taking samples from Callie, our life savior was the rice sock warmed in the microwave, few seconds on the year muuuch easier to bleed :)

Jessica, I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this to you in the past but I have found that rubbing a really thin layer of Vaseline on the tips of Susie ears helps the blood "bead up" and not smear into her fur. Makes testing so much easier for me. I learned about this and the rice sock a long time ago.

Thanks, Marina! We are really really happy with Callie's numbers this cycle. Fingers crossed for later. And thanks for that suggestion -- we actually have been using a warm rice sock (we even keep it behind her ear when we prick instead of gauze or a paper towel, which we find helpful.) We are thinking that our lancets are too small (31 gauge I think) so my partner just went out to get some 28s. I also ordered the 26 gauge safety needles that Judy posted about earlier: https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/may-help-with-testing-100-improvement-for-us.251258/

I know we'll get it. It is just that Callie has been such a trooper through all of this and she is even good about tolerating our first pokes but then she gets really worked up if/ when it takes forever and many pokes ... I am sure that the frustration and anxiety she feels from her parents doesn't help :( Let's just say, we are all working on it! Stay tuned for our next cycle updates...

ps - It looks like Chico is doing great in the OTJ trial. Callie and I are cheering you guys on! :bighug:

Thanks, Summer. We had seen some posts about that and my partner also bought vaseline when he got the bigger lancets earlier so I am glad to know that it works for you. We are going to give it a try at PMPS time. Do you just put a little layer right on the side of the ear where you are sticking?

Yes, just a really thin layer on the outside of the ear where you test. I also move around the testing site a tad. Sometimes it is near the top of her ear and sometimes it is midway. Always, on the outside. I have found that I have to try and test in different sites if I don't get any blood and that is why I will move it around a bit on just the outside of the ear tip.
