He decided this morning after me being nice and giving him a bit extra food this morning that he wasn't gonna play well with the insulin shot OR BG test.

He wouldn't stop moving while eating, and when he finally did, I got the needle in and right as I pushed the button he jerked hard.

Poor guy definitely felt that, needle was bent badly and a giant drop of insulin was on the end.

Should I give him another shot, possibly? Or just let him have elevated BG for the day if it happens?

NO. The number one rule is never give a second shot. There’s always the chance that some got in. Safety first. I’d get a +2 as there still will be depot action the first half of the cycle.

I am not an expert but I have been told by the moderators many times not to give him another shot. One time, I gave 3 furshots in a row and was still told not to give another shot. You may have gotten more insulin in him than you think. He will get another shot in 12 hours. This is just a temporary setback.

Appreciate both replies, I remember reading that as well.

I'll be checking in 2 hours Edit: No curve, we need to get him to adjust to the new food first I believe. I still have yet to figure out exactly what his Nadir during the first 12 hours is.

+7 168, PMBG 184.

Unfortunately didn't get a good shot this morning, gave 1U and will monitor until ~12 tonight.

Second cat is absolutely refusing to eat the old dry food now, even though we didn't give him any of the new food.

So I guess we're transitioning both to new low carb dry food LOL. I tried putting 1 TBSP new & 2 TBSP old and he picked out the new food only lol.

Edit: Forgot to mention, this is the first time in a LONG time he didn't completely scarf down the food non-stop. The new dense kibble made him stop with a few kibbles left and he laid down to take a break before finishing off the remaining food.

I feel like once we move to 50/50 he won't finish it in one sitting anymore :)

That's good. Not only is it good for him to eat a better quality, low carb kibble, you needn't worry about Dexter getting into the high carb one.

LOL. Is this Dexter or Sofi?

Dexter. He usually non-stop scarfs all the food down. He literally doesn't chew half the time. Tonight he was chewing and even stopped for a bit haha.

We've agreed once he's stabilized and hopefully in remission we'll switch them to LC wet and monitor. Gotta figure out something they'll both eat though, they're picky, really picky, about wet food. We've tried it a few times so far and they get to the point they won't eat it anymore.

LOL. My civvie is like that. She struggles with the Dr.Elsey's kibble since they're a little larger and round and they keep falling out of her mouth with she's trying to gobble them down! :-)

Yeah, it takes time and effort with some cats as compared to others. But hey, you have 100s of options in low carb wet food in the US. Hopefully you will find something that they will have.

I just realized you're from India, wow. I hope on an alternate note that COVID isn't too bad in your area.

This forum being all over the world is quite interesting. So much knowledge from so many different places.

People are pretending it's a myth or that they are superhumans. This despite the devastating second wave we had not too long back. Oh well!

We are having a nasty wave as well, I hope you and yours are safe. We've been socially distancing since it started.

On a kitty note, as of now, his BG has dropped to 131. I'm gonna assume he'll be slightly low in the morning. Tomorrow night he gets to enjoy 50/50 new old haha. :) That'll be an interesting BG adventure. I'll probably stay up all night if I can to monitor it.

Yes, thank you for asking! :)

Nice drop from PS. Btw, your SS says 133. I'm splitting hairs. LOL. If he gives you a green PS in the morning, you can try get a nadir without having to stay up all night for it :)

Yes, that's correct, sorry. It's 133. Just double checked.

I assume with 1U insulin after missing his shot this morning and a 180+ BG he should be hopefully just under 100 tomorrow morning lol.

If he meows in our face late tonight, I'll know why haha.
