Wow. Long night! Up 'til 3am and then back up at 7...
Tiger looks good this morning! Up and out-taking swats at the girls-he may be sorry for;)

Earned another dose reduction last night and how!! Glad we were able to restock our HC supply! Local stores were almost sold out!

Ray and Campa are doing well--happy girls:cat: Didn't get any new cute pics last night-sorry all!

Hugs to those who need them:bighug:

Quite the cycle last night! How are his ears, by the way? No issues?
Will you be putting Revolution once a month?

His left looks a little dark down deep. Think I need to clean them and see. He doesn't want me to poke the left one so poor righty took almost all the pokes last night-and they were many!
Yes I am planning to apply Revolution again on the 16th!

He is acting very strong this morning! Still up and in the front window. Giving the girls a run for their money!

Just regular Revolution, right? I read somewhere yesterday (another group) where they were talking about neurological problems associated with Revolution Plus.

Wow really? No I have the plus!
We are just getting over jerks/twitches which are down to almost none right now!
Where did you read that?
Can you reprint it for me?

From Zoetis-the manufacturer of Rev plus--IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: The safe use of Revolution Plus has not been established in kittens less than 8 weeks old or in breeding, pregnant or lactating cats. Reported side effects in clinical trials included lethargy and anorexia. Use with caution in cats with a history of neurologic disorders. Sarolaner, one of the ingredients in Revolution Plus, is a member of the isoxazoline class, which has been associated with adverse reactions such as tremors, ataxia, and seizures. Reactions have occurred in cats with or without a history of neurologic disorders.

On taking large reductions of 0.5u, remember that a larger dose, when reduced, can affect the BGs for six consecutive cycles. That means it might catch up with you.

Yes, you can go back up in dose but it seems a better option to take 0.25 decreases. I don’t see any evidence on his SS that a 0.5u reduction is warranted. IMHO.

Thanks Marje!
Catch up with me? Meaning have to go back up?

You’re welcome. Yes….you could start seeing a lot higher BGs once the depot drains to the current dose.

The TR protocol is designed for 0.25u decreases for a specific reason and safety is considered. Of course, the caveat is that high dose cats typically need those larger deductions in the 0.5u+ range (some times as much as 2u) because some of them have enormous depots (think 22u bid).

This is scary! I just remembered reading this only yesterday on a different cat list that I am on for FIV cats - so I thought I would mention it. I’m glad I did. Is that what Tiger had before? The Plus? I know he was twitching and you have been trying to figure out what was going on.

Yes exactly! I am not sure about the timing--I will have to look back at my notes and see if I can figure out!
Thanks!:bighug:

So is it better for the cat to have to take a reduction two days in a row (for example) or to take a half unit all at once?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge:)

No. If a reduction is earned and the dose decreased by 0.25u followed by another drop below 50 (TR, human meter) within the next four cycles, we do not take another reduction unless kitty drops into the 30s during those four cycles. The reason we generally don’t take back-to-back reductions is because it’s likely the second drop is due to the depot from the higher dose.

Does that help?

Yes thank you!
Are these protocols written down somewhere that I am missing?

TR Protocol. It’s in the stickys at the top of the LBL forum.

We do need to update it about not taking back-to-back reductions but it’s well-known knowledge among experienced members. I’ll get Sienne and Wendy together when Wendy is back and talk to them about us updating the info on reductions.

Thank you!
Sorry-I always have a lot of questions about everything!
What does it mean to be a moderator and how does one become one?

Yes I have read that many many times! So it still sounds to me like if I feel like I can't keep Tiger safe it would be better to take a larger reduction all at once--even if that means I have to go back up again!?
I appreciate your help in sorting this out...

Nice drop at +2, Kathy! I see Tiger is getting ready for green again tonight. Btw, the PMPS cell should be coloured yellow (> 200).

I disagree. Why can’t you keep him safe? You are testing and feeding and that’s all you need.

The TR protocol has a lot of research behind it to support taking reductions of 0.25u for non high dose cats. Please also remember that other new members watch and copy. We don’t want that kind of precedent.

If you insist on taking larger reductions than prescribed in the TR protocol, please remove “TR” from your signature block and SS as you won’t be following TR. thank you.

Thank you!

No apologies needed about asking questions.

We moderators are responsible for keeping the Stickys and Info posts, including all their links, up-to-date. We write new ones based on the latest FD research. We monitor activity on the forum to be sure members are complying with the board rules. We handle all reported posts and determine if members who are reported need to be warned or, in some cases, suspended or banned. Basically, we keep the board running smoothly day-in and day-out except for technical issues which are handled by the Webmaster.

It takes years and years and years of experience and presence on the board to become a Moderator. One has to be asked by the Webmaster. Sienne has been here +12 years, I’ve been here +11, and Wendy has been here +9 years. We were all mentored by the previous Moderators.

ETA: and it’s a volunteer position :)

I thought I was asking questions and having a discussion! I didn't think I was insisting on anything...

Who is the Webmaster? What are that person’s qualifications with regard to FD?

@Suzanne & Darcy
Robert and Echo is the webmaster. The original webmaster was Rebecca (I don't remember the rest of her logon). She is an MD who had an interest in feline diabetes based on her having a diabetic cat and started FDMB over 25 years ago. There was some point, quite a few years ago, that she became ill. She asked Robert (who I believe is her nephew), who had been providing technical support, to assume the position as webmaster and he's been the webmaster ever since. He keeps the technical side of the the Board running as he has a background in all things computer. He is also someone we consult with if there are problems with a particular member as well as any other issues that warrant discussion about overall concerns with the Board. Robert has been working with the Moderators, including the ones who pre-date my time on the Board, for some time. He typically does not offer any guidance regarding management of FD.

FYI - I'm hoping you're asking this question out of curiosity. It doesn't quite come across that way.

Oh my goodness! I hope that I did not offend! If so, I apologize. Yes. Since Kathy brought it up in her condo (about the moderators) and Marje mentioned the webmaster inviting the mods to become mods... I was only wondering. Marje has explained it to me. Actually, I always wondered how you mods gained so much expertise because I think that the Board is really fortunate to have such dedicated, experienced, and knowledgeable moderators. Apart from Wendy, who helped me so much, I am not that familiar with you all. My question was posed with great respect. And since I was unfamiliar with the webmaster, I was just trying to figure out how he fit into the picture. Respectfully, Suzanne
