Yesterday.

Good morning! :coffee: Ruby is in the yellows again today. It looks to me like the split pred dose is showing its effects. Well, either that or Ruby's insides are not well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Might have to keep increasing her insulin as needed if she is going to be running high in both cycles. Meeting up with the vet tech today who might be looking in on Ruby during the day a few times next week. Hope he knows what he is doing.

its not a all or nothing, its not all great or awful, sometimes we are in between and it is ok :bighug::bighug:
Thanks, Marina. I think in between is about as much as I can hope for at this point regarding Ruby's glucose control. It would be nice to see her in more blues and greens but hopefully we will get her there. Slow and steady.

It is great that the oncologist is being very methodical to find the right dose or if needed, the right dose and an additional med, to get it right :). One brake….then add a gas pedal if needed . Much easier to know what drug is doing what in terms of symptom management & also side effects. This is helpful and beneficial moving forward with the process of treatment. You are establishing a strong baseline to work from in the future :bighug:.
Thanks for your support as always, Amy. I am happy to be working with this vet who answers my questions and is responsive to my concerns. Methodical is key, and I have to get it in my head not to panic when her numbers run high. :bighug:

Have a lovely day, everyone! :bighug:

In some ways I was fortunate to have the DM occur after the challenges with Ts health issues. With the diagnosis of DM, knowing that I was actually able to see changes in the glucose as it occurred and then use insulin to address the problem was comforting. As you know, it is the complete opposite with the inflammation :(—we can’t check it with a meter, see it and stop it in its tracks or know what level it is at to be able to adjust the medication easily :banghead:.
Even the symptoms resulting from it are challenging to manage—all trial and error over time.

In keeping with your Ted Lasso theme :bighug:…..

“Hey, takin’ on a challenge is a lot like ridin’ a horse. If you’re comfortable while you’re doin’ it, you’re probably doin’ it wrong.”

You are doing a great job….don’t let the #s get you down for too long “Be a Goldfish”!!

I admit that I would be freaking out, too, if I was going to be so out of control ( traveling, etc.). And it must be so hard to see Ruby in such high numbers when you had her so well regulated due to your diligent care (and feeding!). Is there any possibility of working some of the evening hours at home in September when things will be extra busy?

And your oncologist didn’t think much of using Budesonide on Ruby? For less impact on BG. I guess the bigger gun of Prednisolone was necessary in Ruby’s case.

I hope Ruby feels better today and doesn’t hide! I’m glad it’s Wednesday!

Sadly I can't sell art from my couch at home. Wish I could! There is an art fair in the first week of September in NY and I will be working 12 hour days that week. I will also be traveling for a weekend at the end of August but DBF will be here. I just walked through everything this morning with the vet tech that will be coming once a day to test and feed on days when both humans will be out working. I hope it works out well and Ruby is nice to him.

She said that pred is much more effective for SCL than budesonide. If it was IBD maybe she would have given her bude, but in this case we have to really privilege the SCL over her diabetes. I will keep increasing her doses as needed and manage. The oncologist, like most vets, warned me against trying to tightly regulate Ruby for fear of hypos, but I don't think there's any worry about that, at least not right now.

Yes. I guess I already knew that pred was the better choice… but grasping at straws! I hope Ruby has spent time with you today!

I appreciate all of your comments, advice, words of wisdom, support, Suzanne! Thank you for caring for us, it means a lot to me.

Ruby did get lots of extra scritches today. :cat: Wish I could have her sitting on my desk at work every day but I don't think she'd like the commute!

Hi Katherine, wanted to check in on you and Ruby. I check out your morning post every day and check Ruby’s SS. I wanted to thank you or thank you again for the links and your thoughts regarding a Libre for Dolly. For all the kindnesses you shown to both of us. I wish I had insights or advice to offer regarding Ruby’s health. Hope Olive is doing well. Take care all of you. Sending healing prayers and hugs. :bighug::bighug:
