Miralax question.

Hi everybody
Can i ask a question about Miralax please.
Duke has been pretty much constipated for a while now, i don't know if it's a side effect of his diabetes or not, anyhow we have tried 1 teaspoon am/pm pumpkin with no effect on him and increased his water intake to 300mls a day.
Recently we purchased some clearlax (exactly the same as miralax) and that works wonders on him.
What i need to know if anybody can answer please is can we use the clearlax everyday constantly on him without any side effects, especially his kidneys as his kidney values are a little elevated and obviously we don't want to do any damage.

I use a generic brand on my 5 cats each morning. Just about 1/4 teaspoon in their morning wet food.
No side effects so far and my older cats do have slightly elevated kidney values because of age (according to vet).
You restrict Duke's water intake?

Thanks @Ann & Sister that's good to know.
Regarding Duke's water intake no we are not restricting his water intake there are water bowls all over the house but we are making sure that he gets at least 300mls fluid per day so he does not become dehydrated.
What happened was when he was ill with his pancreatitis or just off his food which can happen fairly regular with Duke we realised that his daily water intake was being drastically reduced, so rather than risk any dehydration issues we just make sure he gets at least 300mls.
When he was first diagnosed we followed the vets advice and fed him just twice daily but not realising by doing this we were also cutting down on his water intake from the wet food, up to 150mls water intake down because he was having only two meals per day.
We now feed him his Breakfast and Supper with 30mls water added each time and a little food at AM/PM +3,4 and 5. every time we add 15mls water to it.

Thanks Katherine, some great info on that site, i used that site a lot with our other cat (catcat) that sadly succumbed to that horrible disease.
It looks like Duke will be on the clearlax permanently but it does keep his stools soft and he's regular.
Duke's due his diabetes checkup and bloods doing in a couples of weeks or so, so any big change should show up.
 
I asked my vet about this when I first started using it for Sophie and she told me the current consensus (in 2019) was that it was safe for daily use. I have given it to Sophie daily for over two years now and she has not had any bad effects, kidneys still look good :cat:

Thanks Sarah, that's good to know it can be used long term and reassuring.
