Max is finally sleeping some now. Still eating well. Seems like he stays hungry. Eats FF or Friskies pates with added water. Also eats some boiled chicken in between meals. Went up to 6u last night. SubQ fluids to be given later today. BG still high. Have a call in to vet to ask if there’s an alternative pain med for him. He had 2 small BMs last night. He seems a little better than yesterday but still not himself yet. Hope he feels better soon and we can get those numbers down. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

I'm so glad that Max is able to rest and seems better today, Lori. My cat Susie is always hungry. Doesn't matter if her BG is high or low. I am grateful for that on the days when I need to feed her extra food to bring up the glucose. I do hope you find a pain med that isn't so harsh on him. I'm glad Max hasn't seen any blacks the last couple of days! Hope this new dose will allow you to break into the yellows soon. Take care!

I’m glad he’s doing better, Lori. Did you try to give him a half dose of the bupe as we suggested? Some vets prescribe tramadol and I, personally, would not use it having used it in one cat before. I do not like the side effects.

I know you are likely exhausted but I have to encourage you to get at least one test after PMPS every single night. Cats tend to go lower at night. If you have no nighttime tests but they are high the next day, it could be the dose OR it could be they dropped down lower or fast and are bouncing back up. Our response to those two scenarios is different.

If you can get a +2 and/or before bed, that would really help. If you go to bed at +3, get a +2 and a +3. If you go to bed after +2, then that’s fine. I”m not asking you to stay up but the more data we have that we can interpret the better. Our philosophy here is “don’t raise the dose unless you know how low the current dose is taking the kitty”. We take that seriously and that could Max in danger from hyperglycemia if we aren’t willing to advise a dose increase if we can’t see how low he’s going.

I hope we see some progress on this dose!! Feel better, Max!

Thanks Marje! I definitely will do that. We were just so exhausted last night, but I should have known better. I didn’t want Tramadol either so we got Gabapentin. I’m so glad you are watching over us! We don’t know anything past the reds and blacks yet so when he starts coming down like in the pinks and yellows, am I still going to be giving 6 units or is that something we adjust. I will post for help of course, but I was just wondering over all. I’m so glad Max is feeling better too!
He just couldn’t tolerate the Bupe at all.

@Marje and Gracie, I’m sorry… I did get a +2 last night. It was 459. I was thinking that doesn’t sound right (that I did not check any) because I thought I did. I went back and looked in my notebook where I write them down and it was there. I just hadn’t transferred it to the SS. I added it now. I’m so sleep deprived!

Be careful with gabapentin. We’ve had cats here have respiratory distress. Not trying to scare you but just a heads-up. Every cat is different so it might be just fine for Max. I hope he gets some pain relief.

No apologies needed. I understand the fatigue. I’m glad you thought to get a test. I hope you get some rest tonight.
