07/27 - Jaxon - AMPS 88 +2 79 +4 79 +6 68 +10 81 PMPS 74 +2 83 +4.5 50 +6 59

No, you should get at least a +2. If you can get a +1 that would be helpful too. The +2 should show if Jaxon is going up or coming down. I'm amazed at how well he did yesterday even with no pre shot at AMPS.

OK. Feeding didn't matter so much when he was in higher numbers. But with him running on the lower range of normal numbers these days, it might make sense for you to break up his meals into mini-meals at +2 and +4 in addition to PS and +6.

What options (besides prescribed stuff) are good to help increase appetite? I know of parm cheese (do not have any at the moment) ... probiotics I had seen posted before (do not have those either) ... it is not a problem generally but want to be prepared if needed

Sorry I can't help with appy stimulants. I know that sugar cats start eating less as their numbers get regulated. They are not as ravenous as they were in higher numbers.

Well the vet wanted to make sure he gets a good amount of calories to maintain his weight .... like 300 kcals for his weight of just shy 6kg ....he slowed eating today (did eat, just not cleaning the bowl like he has been)

It was recommended to me, by folks on this site, to try Mirataz. It is an ointment that you rub on the inside of the ear. I remember using it on my ckd cat a few years ago but was never sure if it helped. I have not had to use it on Susie, yet, because she usually eats like a pig all the time. It does require a prescription and I'm sorry I don't remember what it cost. https://mirataz.com/mirataz/for-cat-owners/

Sorry, I just noticed that you didn't want a prescription med. What I like about this stuff is that it is not a pill or a liquid I have to put down her throat or in her food. Other folks have recommended slippery elm bark. Let me tag someone who could help. @Suzanne & Darcy Can you help Allison with a "natural" appetite stimulant?

I remember seeing someone even suggesting (not sure if it was here or the facebook group) fish flakes which sounded ODD to me but I do keep fish so :)

We've had some people have good results with 1/4 tab of Zyrtec (it's a human antihistamine that has the side effect of stimulating appetite in some cats).

Besides mirtazapine, there's cyproheptadine (another human antihistamine) and a newer drug called Entyce (all these require a script though)

Not sure how an allergy med would be usd for appetite (not saying you are wrong, just confused) ....

Yeah I'm not sure how/why it works either, but I used to use Cyproheptadine when China needed an appetite stimulant and within about 30 minutes of giving it to her, I think she would have taken down a water buffalo. It worked really well!

I know we've had several people here and some in the Facebook group that have used the Zyrtec successfully

I give Ruby cyproheptadine when she needs it because she reacts too strongly to mirtazapine. Unknown how it works but it seems to stimulate appetite in cats.

If I was not running lower on strips (and waiting to hear if DCIN can get me some more soon) ... not sure if I should retest or just test again in a couple hours

He sure is looking fabulous! If you haven't already done it, I'd give him a teaspoon or two of his LC food and test again about +4. Come on Jax...show us how it's done!!

Just tested (fed around +4) and came back 50. Am guessing more LC + MC or MC + Honey? (No HC in the house)
