Well we are off the Orbax for UTI (yay) but he developed a sore on the corner of his mouth (boo). I’ve used topicals in the past for similar sores but have also resorted to Convenia when they were stubborn and the topicals didn’t work. I tried topicals on this for two days but he keeps licking it off (not surprising given the location) and I have to fuss with his whiskers to get at it, which he doesn’t like AT ALL, so we are going for the Convenia again. Plus he has a non-anesthetic dental next week so I’d like this to be cleared up by then.

(Please no Convenia shaming - he’s had it several times, has had no reactions, and it’s always worked for skin issues).

Convenia is an AB for skin issues, so seems appropriate if he doesn't have any reaction to it.

Good luck with the new dose.

Oh, whew! Folks in FB-land (several cat groups) have very “heated” opinions about it in general.

And thank you! I hope it works as well as it did before vacation!

I wouldn't give Convenia to my cat, if I didn't know it they'd had it before safely. There are some horror stories out there and it is long lasting. Your circumstances are different. I've also seen vets prescribe it not for skin conditions merely cause it's "convenient". If you have to give an AB it should be the right type for the situation.

Yea the first time he got it was for a similar skin infection. At the time he’d never had it before and it was given because it is convenient, so yea - I rolled the dice. I didn’t know better at the time: I’d have a LOT more questions if it was now and I know what I know! We lucked out with both cats not having reactions.

Max was given convenes after dentals with an extraction because my vet didn’t want him to have intestinal issues with oral antibiotics and he did fine. I must admit I was nervous.
