My name is Clara and i taking care of Macho.

i just tested MACHO AT 7am and its 128 to make sure it was good i tested again and its 109 which is the number?

I am new here. My dad opened this account because he wants to help Macho. We have visited 3 vets in manhattan, NY and no one seems to help. Macho was diagnosed august last year one week after we adopt him.
can someone text me or call me?. does anyone speaks spanish?.
i hope you can help me to get through this.

Responding in your latest thread. So normally you feed Macho Fancy Feast Classic Pates only? Nothing else? No dry food? Or any diabetic prescripton food?
Can you confirm which Applaws food you bought? Which flavour?

yes. every day since diagnosed fancy feast pate only salmon , ocean white fish, cod, sole & shrimp feast or tiny tigers seafood recipe, ocean white fish &tuna recipe salmon recipe.

emergency high carbs are 9 lives in gravy and Applaws> tuna fillet with shrimp in broth, chicken breast with pumpkin in broth & tuna with whole aAnchory & seaweed in broth.

Will there be someone at home to test between 12/1pm and 7pm if required? More tests would be required on days where his numbers are continuing to drop at 12/1 pm.

i will stay with him all day and test him every time needed. i don't want that to happen again. i thought with food he will be ok.

Great! You don't have to do this every day. Only in cycles where he is going lower through the day. :-)

Hi Clara, having food around for Macho to eat all day long is a very good thing. Sometimes though he will need a higher carb food to get his numbers up, and the only way to know when that is is to test him when you can. If you have to be out of the house for more than a few hours and you see his numbers are going down before you go, I would leave some food that has 10-15% carb in it, what we consider medium carb versus the emergency high carb food you already have. Maybe you can find Fancy Feast Medleys Turkey Florentine with Garden Greens, Wild Salmon Florentine in a Delicate Sauce, or White Meat Chicken Florentine in a Delicate Sauce. These are good medium carb foods you can find in the store.

Macho needs insulin, and we can help you with how much to give him and teach you how to keep him safe. Taking care of a diabetic cat is a big responsibility, but with careful attention, patience and lots of love, you can help him live a long and happy life. :) :bighug:

Feed him just a spoon of the high carb (9 lives) and test in an hour.

ETA: Was the 65 at +2 or closer to +3? I think it's almost 10am now?

my brother has agree to help me again, we had huge cats fight that night. My brother will go to the store today, while i stay here to buy that food.

OK. Don't feed him too much of the high carb. Just a teaspoon and you can test in an hour.
Once you get the medium carb food suggested by @PerfumedCatMom that is what you want to feed at such times.

Hi Elise,

Thank you so much. Macho is my best friend and my fam got so worry because they haven't seen me getting so emotional and aggressive with my brother.
My father got so stressed out. well i feed him the 9 lives and he is up again :( i will learn to deal with this at least i understand more.

sometimes i have to test him twice because i am not sure. and it comes different number. why? i just test him and he came with 229 and then 222.

There is a 15-20% "variance" in meter readings, so don't worry about it. Don't waste strips and pokes testing repeatedly unless you get an unusually low number.

It's almost 7pm and i want to know if i should give him 3.25.

next time the amps +2 number is low i should give him just a spoon of fancy feast medleys?.

will his poop will get better after he is stable? Because sticks a lot and its a lot of poop.

Can we give him treats during the day like one or two ? my dad bought Orijen originals.

My brother found white meat chicken florentine and turkey florentine.

what's the name of your cat?.:)

Hi Clara, I'm just seeing this post now. Please test Macho and tell us what number you get, but most likely you should give him 3.25.

Here is an easy guide to what to feed when Macho goes low:

60 and above: low carb food (less than 10% carb)
Between 50 and 59: medium carb food (between 10-15% carb)
49 and below: high carb emergency food (16% carb and higher)

His poop will get better and he will pee a lot less.

Yes, you can give him treats, but I have seen Orijen treats push BGs higher. So I would give Macho Pure Bites freeze dried treats during the day if you can find those.

My cat's name is Ruby. She is very sweet.

omg she is so pretty. I wish diabetes doesn't exist. Why she got diabetes?.
 
Should i continue leaving food out at night?
He pulls my hair to wake me up when he is hungry. I think is funny and i don't care but my dad bought a machine but i still get up and sit with him while he eats.
 
Let hm eat at night so you can sleep. Will he eat from the machine if you don’t get up? If not sure try it during the day and see.

some nights i think is not enough or he wants something else and wake me up. he is 234 is that good?.

The machine feeds him at 12 and then at 4am.

That’s a good number. How long before you go to bed? If you are awake get a test in 2 hours. It’s not necessary though. He has food and will be fine.

sorry. I was very tired. :( My brother he stays awake playing video games he check him at night. I cant check him at 11pm. My last blood pick is at 9pm
