Before leaving for dentals (OTJ since July 08)

I'm looking for suggestions about how to keep Ben's stress level down when he goes for his dentals in a week, 17 July. Ben is an indoor only cat by his rules. If I even took him to the screen door to look outside, he would climb over my shoulder, jump off, and go hide.
I am sure it was a combo of infection, pain, and stress of leaving his comfort zone to ride in a car to the dentist. Then being in a strange place with no one he knew that drove his BG to 463 when the pre-dental tests were done.
Any suggestions about keeping him calm for his trek to the dentist would be helpful. I put his "special blanket", stuffed "brother" little polar bear, and my pillow case in the travel box for him.
Any meds to ask the dentist for for the ride there?

I have read on my town's "everything pets" Facebook page that many use Gabapentin to keep their pets calm for vet trips. I use transdermal Gabapentin on one kitty but it is to help with pain/discomfort during the week. I have it compounded for his ear flap since he does not like liquid meds and is difficult to pill.
I have never used anything for vet trips, even though one cat's internist is over an hour away and he is pretty vocal most of the trip. I might give him Gaba next time.
If Ben's BG is high before the dental, and I am assuming he will be under anesthesia, will they still do it?

Call the vet and ask about it and tell them how stressed out he gets.
Looking at his pic he has the sweetest face.
Now I feel so bad for him that he gets so stressed out poor baby.♥

Sorry I didn't put this in the title, Ben is on OTJ trial right now with normal BG levels. This is why I need to find suggestions of keeping him calm, don't want the BG to skyrocket just from the drive there. I have kept in contact with the kitty dentist. Ben is okay to go for dentals.

Right, with all the diabetes care I have not brought that to the attention of the dental vet, yet (dental and spay neuter specialty clinic).
I am not always the most trusting soul when it comes to my kitties care and VETS. The vet prescribing insulin wanted to put him down. I do trust my fellow feline CRF and feline diabetes cat board peers. And my own research after some advice seems right or wrong.

At 6 weeks old Ben had a long bus trip in a cardboard box to get to my home. Some of it he was hiding in my hair on my shoulder, then down my shirt on my tummy hiding. This may have had him thinking "I am never going out of this apartment again if I can help it" or something like that. He has been scared to death to go outside. But we now have a balcony I have "cat proofed" and leave the door open at times. It is a happy site for me to behold when I see him laying on the balcony, content, getting fresh air.
 
You may also want to get some Feliway spray. In addition to all of the familiar smells your putting in the carrier, the Feliway may help to calm Ben.

I just sent an email to the dental vet. I trust them and will wait for their decision.
 
The dental vet says Feliway & Rescue Remedy are good choices. She would rather him not be too sedate before surgery.
