Bandit had his check with my vet today. He passed with flying colors. :cat: :cat: :cat:

The vet said that when she looked at the records and saw that he was on 5 units of Vetsulin, she thought that she would be seeing a cat in poor health condition. Quite the opposite. He is a healthy weight and his coat looks great. Beverly did a great job caring for him. :)

I am very fortunate to have such a great vet. I thought that I would need to have a senior panel and fructosomine done, but she said no, she did not think it was needed right now because how well he looks. I asked for a prescription written out for insulin glargine so I can try the Lantus coupon, but if that doesn't work, I can get Semglee from Walgreens at a great price. Better than even ordering Lantus from Canada. All she asked was do I want it for a vial or pens. Since I am also removing his dry food from his diet, we agreed to start at one unit. Also, because I am home testing, she said to do a curve in about 10 days and send the info to her.

The last time I had a diabetic cat I was going to another clinic. They were fantastic also and the only reason I changed was to have all of my pets using the same clinic that was closer. So, Dr. November has never worked with me caring for a diabetic cat. So to have her respond this way - I am in heaven. :D

Sounds good. A single pen only had 3 ml in it. Bottle has 10 ml in it. A box of 5 pens has a total 15 ml. So ask how many pens you will be getting for the price at Walgreens.

Where I am located and w/GoodRx coupon, Semglee from Harris Teeter is less expensive than from Walgreens.
If I realized how much of a royal pain trying to fill the prescription at Walgreens would be, I would have gone someplace else. Unfortunately the closest Harris Teeter is about 40 miles away

Vetsulin at 5 units down to 1 unit of Lantus is quite the drop. In spite of the food change. Neko was at 5 units Caninsulin when I started Lantus at 1 unit, and a food change. Took me months to get her back to where she should be. If you aren't seeing anything below 300 in three days, I'd consider fast tracking the dose.

I realize that is a huge drop, but he was also eating dry food. The only thing that may have prevented a hypo when he was on 5 units was the dry food.

Last night I gave him only one unit and he became hypoglycemic. There is another thread I started about it.
