Finally found you Jennifer!! This is just the spreadsheet and technical info forum which is why I had such a hard time finding you.

At first, you should post in the Feline Health (Main forum) until you get a few things done and then somebody will suggest that you post in the Lantus, Basaglar and Levemir forum.

As for your question, you are holding the dose too long. There are 2 different dosing methods we use with Lantus. One has you hold the dose 7 days and one only 3 days (depending on how things are going of course). It allows his body to get used to being high even with the insulin.

For now, stay at the 1.5U dose and it's really important (if at all possible) that you get at least 1 mid-cycle test on the AM cycle and at least a "before bed" test on the PM cycle. Lantus dosing is based on how low it takes them so without knowing more about what's going on with the 1.5U dose, there's not much advice we can give you other than hang in there! If nothing else, treating diabetes will teach you patience!

Here are some tips on How you can help us help you.

Maybe we can get @Wendy&Neko to move this post over to the Health forum

What does holding the dose mean? And does mid cycle mean hour 6?

Holding the dose means continuing to give the same amount of insulin. With the more conservative of the two methods Chris mentioned above, you would hold the dose (continue to give the same amount) for 7 days, then perform a glucose curve to determine if the dose needed to be increased or decreased.

Mid cycle means another test some time during the cycle. A cycle is 12 hours, so there are two cycles in a day. You can test at hour 6 if you’d like to, but it can also help to vary the time you test, especially if you don’t yet know your cat’s nadir

OK so I need to stay on 1.5 and test randomly. I feel like I've been doing this lol. I don't understand why Chris said I'm holding the dose too long because your answer seems to be the opposite.

I think Chris was referring to the fact that you held the 1.0u dose for 16 consecutive days. You haven’t held the 1.5 too long yet, but you haven’t gotten any mid cycle tests for the 1.5 dose yet either, so she can’t give you any dosing advice without being able to see more of the picture for this dose :cat:

Yes! That's what I was referring too, not the 1.5U dose.

When you get a minute, it will also help for you to go ahead and fill out your "Signature". If you click on your sign on name, you'll get an option called "Signature" A new box will pop up for you to enter information into like:

Your name/Cats name, age, sex, date of diagnosis, type of insulin, type of meter, type of food, any other health problems or meds? and then you can put the link to Olive's spreadsheet and hit "save".

That will keep us from having to ask you the same questions over and over. The Signature is what you see under all our comments (slightly grey type). Every time you post, that information will automatically be added.

You don't need to decide on a dosing method today, but when you do, you'd add that info to your Signature too (either TR for Tight Regulation or SLGS for Start Low Go Slow)
