6/16 Sister Dosing Help, pls

Sorry if this a duplicate. I posted this but cannot locate.
Sister feels just fine, just not interested in her dinner this evening.
She is eating lighter overall.
Just started testing yesterday and her mid day number was 140.
Today her BG was 146 AMPS, 140 at +6 and 141 at her PMPS.
Shall I skip her insulin? She gets 1/2 unit Lantus 2X a day.
Not comfortable with her not eating before shoot.
I am pretty certain she would eat DRY food. She gobbled the post test treats.
Thanks
Also, I do not know if +7 means 7 hours after insulin or 7 hours after last test.

Hi Ann,

Please put the amount of insulin given to Sister in the "U" column (that means "units"). The + numbers mean hours after the last shot. So +1 means one hour after the shot, +9 means nine hours after the last shot. You would put ".5" in the U column for this morning. Please see Ruby's SS as a guide.

141 is a safe number to shoot, but since her appy is a little off and you're new to testing you can skip the shot if you're not comfortable. Please put NS in the U column for this evening to let us know that you did not give her a shot tonight.

Here's something for you to read regarding the spreadsheet, and come back with any questions! https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/how-to-use-the-spreadsheet.241653/.

Thanks for the clarification. I have been reading everything. I just cannot retain it.

The learning curve is very steep. I read those sticky posts these days and still find new things I hadn't absorbed before and I've been around here a lot longer than you. :p Don't worry. It gets easier. :bighug:
While I have your attention, my ReliOn was alerting me to high temps this evening while testing. It is 106 here and I cannot cool this place down to lower than 84 degrees. The glucometer said it was 89 degrees. Is the quick remedy to hold the device in front of the AC or refrigerate for a minute? I did not think I would get a reading at first. Thanks.

Wow, I've never encountered that before. I did a quick search and found this: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/704142/Relion-Prime.html?page=62. It says it should work if the temperature is below 113. Perhaps your meter is faulty? Can you try to return the one you have and get a new one?

The meter did not flash yesterday when I was testing, nor this morning when it was not as hot.
WalMart has a note at the bottom of the receipt. No returns on any diabetic supplies.

FWIW, I am crazy enough to always have a spare meter on hand. You never know when the meter might go haywire, the battery dies, and you find yourself needing to test the cat late at night.

Excellent idea to just buy another one. They are inexpensive enough to have a spare on hand. Thank you. And I checked the handbook and it seems the strips are more sensitive to heat than the device itself.

When I did the AMPS this morning, the thermometer on the ReliOn screen was not flashing. Held it and bottle of strips in front of my Delonghi Pinguino 10 seconds first.
BG was 176, prolly because she missed her injection last evening. Sister ate 1/3 of her combo platter this morning, and I hoped she would be ravenous by now.
She was, however, totally up for extra ProPlan DM dry and some Zero dry. She crunched that up quickly. The transition continues...
