Susie and food. Yes, I feel badly that I can't feed her more but I understand. Her weight needs to be maintained. Yes, I did say that I hated all the food I was feeding her on the mornings when she was low but I know that is to keep her safe. Yes, I did say she needed to lose weight - according to the vet. She is not a small cat and I would rather her be a couple of pounds overweight than underweight. I see the struggles so many people have with getting their cats to eat. I think she looks good right now but I expect her to lose weight with the 6 oz per day restriction.

My wishing to feed her more and my knowing that she shouldn't get more are two different things. My heart and my head.

I know when I get a moderator and some of the true experts on this site scolding me that I have put my foot in my mouth - yet again. If anyone is going to do that - it will be me.

That being said I hope you all will still get behind me on this site - for Susie's sake. And, I apologize in advance for saying stupid things.

Just want to send hugs to you Summer.
Please know that I love your honesty, and completely get the head vs heart mix up or dilemma.

Also, I have a hunch that when I talked about delaying a meal if Tina's BG was too high, it might have kicked in to make you feel like a lot of us weren't feeding enough. I am not sure, but I'm sorry anyway! My Hobbes and Susie are at similar weights. Hobbes looks good, but is heavy like a rock. Thirteen lbs is our goal from almost fifteen.

I found a few years ago, that feeding guidelines on cat food were often double the amount of what my cats needed. Anyhow, use both that brain and heart and work on that balance that is so hard to find! :bighug: Balance is my goal in life. Still haven't found it!

Work that increase, Susie!

Hi Summer, we all say stupid things at one time or another, it’s part of the ritual of being a cat mom to a diabetic kitty, our heart and our mind often conflict and out comes our foot trying to reach our mouth :p. I’m proud of you for finally taking the leap, setting aside your fears and increasing Susie when it’s the appropriate thing to do. I’ve watched you grow a lot lately. Hoping the increase gets Susie to safe but lower numbers. Hugs to you both :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh no! You haven’t said anything stupid! I would rather that my adult cats carry a little bit of extra weight than that they be too thin. I have had too many cats who become ill at a certain age and lose a bunch of weight that you can never seem to get back onto them - they never can gain it back. In addition, the ones who don’t get really emaciated always do much better and live a lot longer. Believe me it’s no fun to have a little “walking skeleton” around the house - it’s very sad. I’ve had a few of them.

Oh and I saw what you wrote last night about food. I just took it to mean that it was hard on you to deny food to Susie at times when Susie seems to be so hungry. I get that.

Oh and with regard to my post above, I am NOT saying that I want my cat to be obese either.

Thank you, sweet Pamela and Suzanne. You always stand by me when I don't exactly deserve it. Bless both of you ladies and so many more on this site that put up with my antics and my comments. I don't know what I would do without my true friends. The ones that understand the frustration of this whole diabetes "sugar dance". Thank you.
