Darcy had not pooped since last Friday. I really thought that we had his constipation under control since his stool was formed, but soft. However, that was Friday. Saturday he did not have a BM and Sunday he did not have a BM. Mid morning today he was in the litter box trembling and shaking ... he got out after scratching around in there and making a mess... still trembling and shaking... then he started crying and panting. Clearly, he was in pain. I took him to the vet. She x-rayed him. He is very blocked up. He has had three enemas already today. I just got him home about an hour ago. He was howling all the way home. He has calmed down a bit now and is purring when I pet him, but he seems disoriented. His BG is very high. I have to take him back tomorrow for perhaps another enema. I hope he will pass more stool tonight. I think they will re-x-ray him to make sure he isn't blocked up anymore. I have to wonder if he was ever really unblocked from the last time. It is so upsetting.
 
Oh my goodness, Suzanne! I feel so sorry for you and poor Darcy. Sending healing light and hopes for more (gentle) poop. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
I’m sorry to read this about Darcy. Do you think you need to take him to an emergency clinic vs waiting until tomorrow? I always worry about impacted stool :(.

I would take him. The reason I say this is because of the dangers of impacting & rupturing. T was constipated several years ago but it turned out that he was impacted as well. There was a literal cork like ball of hair stuck & blocking 1/2 of the BM to be stuck. First half came out with an enema but the 2nd half of the BM was stuck. He clearly was still uncomfortable in the office and
X-ray helped to identify it. They were able to use enemas along with IV fluids & some pain management to fix the problem, but there is no way that could have been done at home :(.
 
It can be quite painful...I’m so sorry you are going through that.

We learned to ask for a post enema X-ray to ensure they got it. Cosmo has been manually extracted several times as well as more enemas than we care to remember last summer. :bighug: Did they give you any lactulose for the constipation? Is kitty ‘crowning’?

Ohhh....poor Darcy and poor Mommy. I can’t imagine seeing and hearing him in pain like that. You’ll do the right thing for him no matter what that is. Big hugs to you all.

Thanks, Tanya. We have been using Lactulose - 3 mL daily. Obviously not enough. What do you mean crowning?

He has calmed down a little but cries periodically.

You know your little fur man best. Follow your instincts if you don’t like how things are going or he isn’t looking good as time is passing. Always best to be safe with these BM issues.

Will be thinking about you two….again, so sorry you guys have this stressful situation continuing tonight.

Ummm..like when he strains in the litter box, can you see the poop? (I wasn’t sure how else to describe it). If so, sometimes some long strokes/massage down the spine to the tail can help. That is where the last part of the colon is in kitty anatomy.

Oh, poor Darcy and so sorry that you both are struggling through yet another hard day. The disorientation sounds scary and that poor boy must have been in terrible pain. Do they know what could be causing it? His food? Have they suggested anything to do or give him at home. I’m sorry, you don’t need a bunch of questions, I’m sure you’ve looked in all directions. I just hope he calms down tonight and you both get some sleep. I hope he has a solid but soft poopy surprise for you in the morning. Dolly sending her special poopy prayers to Darcy. I’m sending loving healing prayers to you both. It can only get better, right? :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
Oh Suzanne, you and D can't seem to get a break. I hope the enemas resolve the situation for you overnight...I can only imagine how distressing it is to hear him crying out and not being able to help him feel better. Minnie says EVACUATE, DARCY! (I had to translate that into posh language for him...she doesn't know long words like that. She said POOP.) :bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
I took him to the ER vet. I waited too long but at least he is on IV fluids now. I will transfer him to regular vet this morning, but at least he will be on the IV so he will continue getting fluids all day.
Question: since he is not eating, what should I shoot. I just gave his regular dose last night plus a little R. At 3 am he was at about 113 as I recall. That was +8.5. He was dropping slowly had checked him two hours earlier.

Thanks. I had been massaging him all over his spine because he does enjoy it.... especially around his tail. The sweet boy was still trying to be loving.
