whelp tuna decided that his PMPS tonight will be the lowest we ever had at 106. im sure stalling wont do anything so i guess its another NS night. i dont understand its been 5 nights of low PMPS. I reduced the dose from to 0.75u to 0.5u and i still cant get a shoot number. its so aggravating

While it makes it tricky to know what to give, having low numbers is what we want. :). I might try consistently giving 0.25 am and pm. And seeing what happens. Even if the pmps is below 200. I think you are just getting a nice long duration from the ProZinc, and when you skip is then wearing off and going up. If the 0.25 isn't enough after several days we can try a skinny 0.5.

Ok at amps I'll shoot 0.25, I can't believe how long it's lasting!!! Thank you so much!

He still didn't get his amps high enough today. 147 at amps. At this point I think tuna is doing this out of spite.
looks like that pancreas is waking up!!!! Excellent. It's OK that you Skipped....
I would have still shot the 0.25 (maybe a skinny 0.25... Like literally a few drops ) at that number as long as you could test. It's above normal and giving the 0.25 would have probably gotten your cat in those nice healing greens. Remember that with a human meter normal is 50-120. You still had some wiggle room.

I knew I wouldn't be able to test at the dip, I was running on fumes at that point. I've been sleeping about 4 hours a day monitoring tunas diarrhea. Now another cat has diarrhea too. I had to hookup a motion sensor camera to figure out who it was because I can't be in two places at once. This has been a week from hell for me. I feel like I'm getting to a point of no return. If all 16 of my cats get diarrhea I think I'm gonna lose it. This all started on tunas 12th birthday OF ALL DAYS. he's had diarrhea since June 1st and I can't afford a vet, I'm not even going to make my mortgage payment. How do you guys cope? I'm breaking in half

Oh my you do have your hands full. Makes me wonder if they have each other a stomach bug. Can you keep the two sick ones confined temporarily from the others? Have you tried giving a teaspoon of plain canned pumpkin in their food? The fiber may help bulk up their stools. I've found FortiFlora sometimes helps as well.

If you are struggling to afford insulin and supplies look into applying for help from Diabetic Cats in Need. 16 cats is a lot for anyone to handle. Are they all house cats or are some ferals that you care for? At one time we were catering for about 8 ferals and 7 inside. It's a lot. Now several years later we are down to 5 inside and 3-4 outside. It's STILL a lot. Lol

I've done the pumpkin, tuna loves it thankfully and will eat it straight. All 16 are indoors, I have 3 stories and over 3000 sqft for them. I have tuna confined with me, Bentley is an issue. He was a case of abuse that I rescued and he doesn't take handling very well. I will try my best to confine him. I used to run an out-of-pocket feral to domestic rescue program, almost all of my cats are failures from that program (I've rehomed over 300 please don't think I kept them all lol) Bentley is a case of adopted out but abused, so I kept him and his sister when I did a home visit and saw the abuse. 16 cats was not a lot for me to take care of before covid. I had a great job, just bought a $265,000 three-story home, and had plans for a big wedding and had plenty of money in savings. Once covid hit due to my own health issues (brain cyst, autoimmune disease) I had to stop working. Then once I felt safe enough to go back to work the owner of my job died from covid. I just helped one of my cats get over severe pneumonia and that was $3k to save her life. Then I got hit with Tunas diabetes, another $1k between 2 vets. And my fiances car just broke down, not an easy fix either it's the transmission.

This year has tested me beyond limitations I thought possible. I was on track to open a new business with no loans at all in a very upscale part of my town. Now I can't afford to take even one of my cats to the vet. I'll have to look into the cat's in need program. I try never to accept charity, I was the charity before all this.

Do you run this rescue program yourself or is it a network of fosters? Is it a registered non profit?

I sure hope now that things open up for you and things slowly get back to normal you have an easier time.

My family was fortunate in that we are both teachers and so continued to work through covid. I have been working from home since last March.

It was an out of pocket adventure I took up after volunteering for a no-kill cat shelter for a year. I kept seeing these poor cats come in and my heart broke for them. I decided to help my local cat population by working with that shelter for $5 I could spay/neuter a feral cat and I would put in the work to domesticate it and find it a home. I did it for many years as my contribution to my elderly community in south Florida.

My friend does the same... And takes care of several feral colonies. His name is Len Twist so filed as a non profit and calls it Twisted Cats. This allows him to have 501 tax exempt status and save lots of money on things like food and vet bills for the cats he cares for. People can also donate money as a charitable contribution. He works along side his towns tnr group who sets up food drives at the local animal shelter to feed the ferals. It's something to consider... Although perhaps a pain in the ass to set up.

How is your own health now? Are you doing any better?

I live outside of my old area by about 4 hours, my new area doesn't have a feral cat problem at all. I worry I won't make the non profit minimum of x amount of animals adopted of whatever they need. All 16 are now what I'd consider my literal children

My health always runs about the same. My brain cyst DX is what triggered my hypochondria/health anxiety. I worry that everything that's wrong with me will kill me and no one will be there to take care of my cats so that triggers panic attacks. As of right now I truly believe my biggest problem is getting my cats back to optimum health, and if I don't I'll keep having these severe panic attacks. If I can fix tuna and Bentley I think I can fix my anxiety! I just posted a theory in the think tank forum. If you have about 10 minutes to read my paragraph (full of terrible grammer pls forgive me lol) I think it could be an interesting theory

Have you tried probiotics / FortiFlora with them? Maybe they have a food sensitivity.

I have used these Nutramax Laboratories Proviable DC for Cats and Dogs, 80 Capsules https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001O3UE9E/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20

And this helps my cat Julie Purina Fortiflora Cat Probiotic Powder Supplement, Pro Plan Veterinary Supplements Probiotic Cat Supplement https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001650OE0/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20
I found tuna with piles of liquid vomit around him so I rushed him to the vet. I never got a chance to deworm him. I walked into the room with the pill and vomit everywhere

Oh, he has worms? Poor baby
I can't believe how long it took me to figure it out. I don't do the litter because of my allergies I think my fiance just rushes through the chore. I wonder when it would be safe to deworm now?

If one of them has worms, it's possible that the other also get it. Maybe that's what causing diarrhea in so many of them.

Call the vet and ask. If the pill was whole it's probably safe to try again but I'd just call and ask.

I actually was holding the pill in my hand, walked into tunas room then saw the vomit. I never actually gave it to him! I'm just afraid to add his more diarrhea! I know a side effect of prazinquentel is diarrhea

My civvie had vomiting and diarrhea because she had worms. The vet prescribed some Ondem for the vomiting and said I could give the deworming pill once the vomiting stopped - which it did in a day or so. Deworming solved the problem.

Do you think the worms could cause pancreatitis?

If you can monitor, give a drop. If you'd rather skip, skip!
Someone mentioned that pancreatitis needs insulin?! Yesterday he dropped low and without my intervention he would have went hypo. I even gave him high carb gravy yesterday. His preshot was 138 I believe. It would be a definite hypo

I said you want to avoid skipping if you can because of DKA. Given that Tuna is eating ok it's a little less worrisome, plus he's in a good BG range. I'd still check ketones if you can.

He's definitely eating a little less enthusiastically but he is doing it! As for the cerenia it says for dogs only so idk if I should use that, and my vet prescribed metronidazole at 75 mg every 12 hours...that really seems like... rediculous right?

I did 50mg twice a day.
Then I'll do 50 but tuna has started doing this weird thing when eating. He keeps sticking out his tongue repeatedly like something is stuck on it so I give him water then like a taste of the DM gravy and he does it again. Do you think that's nausea? Is it safe for me to use dog cerenia? My vet is closed of course

I think there's a good chance of nausea.

Less is better with metronizadole. It can be constipating once it starts working too. So once you see a normal stool don't be surprise if a few days are skipped. At that point my vet said to stop. Max did not have an infection. It was the pancreatitis that caused the diarrhea.
