Duke's numbers have been very strange today, something i have never seen before.
He started this morning at AMPS 9.8 mmol (176 mg/dl) so i gave him his normal shot.
At AM+3 and he'd gone up to 12.8 mmol (230 mg/dl),
I checked him at AM+4 and he'd come down slightly to 11.6 mmol (209 mg/dl),
I then checked him at AM+5 and he'd come down to 9.9 mmol (178 mg/dl)
I thought at this stage maybe i had given him a fur shot or a partial shot. I then checked him at AM+9 and he was 8.2 mmol (148 mg/dl), somewhere where he should be at that time normally.
It came to his PMPS and he was at 5.2 mmol (94 mg/dl) i waited 1 hour and he's only risen to 5.7 mmol (102 mg/dl) so i skipped his shot.
He has been struggling of late to eat his meals and needs a lot of encouragement plus he's been constipated and i have given him psyllium husk powder starting yesterday lunch time and again this morning and he pooped ok this morning. I didn't give him any psyllium husk powder PM as i hope he ok now.
Does anybody have any idea as to what's happened today. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tee.

Thanks @Diane Tyler's Mom
He's had no insulin tonight, went up a lot at PM+3 to 12.6 mmol (227 mg/dl) but now at +5 he coming down a bit to 9.4 mmol (169 mg/dl)
Very strange and i don't know what to make of it, this has never happened before.
I will check him again at PM+6 and post.

Ok, PM+6 and he's come down slightly again to 8.4 mmol (151 mg/dl)
He's had no insulin now for 18 hours which is concerning.
Duke's gone to bed now, he's had enough today.
Hopefully somebody can help and try to decipher what's going on with him.
It looks like he could be following the same pattern as his AM numbers yesterday and if so what do i do in 6 hours for his AMPS, do i just leave him again or leave it an hour or two hoping his numbers rise.
Thanks.

Perhaps Duke's pancreas is kicking in a little bit on its own? He may benefit from a reduced dose I'm thinking, though I'm not sure what. Hopefully one of the other ladies can chime in with an idea.
If he keeps it up in the morning you might consider doing a token dose (10-15% of his full dose).

Thanks @Panic
He seems to be back to his normal numbers this morning at 11.1 mmol (200 mg/dl) so i have given him his normal dose and i will keep a very keen eye on him today.
I do hope you're right about his pancreas kicking in, now that would be great.
I'm also wondering if the psyllium husk powder had anything to do with it, i'm sure i read on here somewhere about it can lower blood sugars. I will try to find the post.

wow nice numbers! :D
Hi @Janet, hope you're well. :bighug:
I don't know what you mean by nice numbers?
It looks like he's back to normal today, a bit higher but i think it's because he's had Gourmet perle for breakfast and that has vegetable protein extract in it and we've found out that it does seem to lift his numbers, but he's struggling with his food at the moment so it will have to be that (until he changes his mind and decided he does not like that anymore). But i can't increase his dose to suit his food.
Do you have any idea as to what went on yesterday because i'm totally stumped, but considering he went 24 hours without insulin i think he did quite well with his numbers.
The only thing we did different was to give him the psyllium husk powder.
AM+4 6.6 mmol (119 mg/dl) low blues so i'm happy with that.

NIce low preshots.... and even without insulin the numbers didn't rise much. almost all your numbers are blue, and the ones that are yellow are pretty low. Duke is just barely over normal for preshots and in nice healthy numbers mid day. that's what i mean by nice numbers. Some people NEVER get such a nice blue and green spreadsheet. haha Remember you are using an alphatrak too... so when you look at other people's numbers with human meters, their numbers are going to run lower comparatively just because it's a different kind of meter.

Thanks @JanetNJ for that. :)
You're right in what you say about others not seeing Duke's numbers, maybe one day he might go into remission.
I still don't understand what happened, but next time he's a bit constipated and i use the psyllium powder i will certainly make a comparison to yesterday.
To be honest it was quite exciting seeing his numbers stay low without any insulin. Fingers crossed his pancreas is starting to splutter into life again.
Edit AM+6 and still dropping 5.4 mmol (97 mg/dl)

it's REALLY exciting! i think his pancreas is sputtering... and the insulin is just giving it a bit of support. if you aren't already, add extra water to the wet food to help prevent constipation. you could also put a little half teaspoon to teaspoon of plain pumpkin in the food every few days if he'll eat it. CC used to get constipated once in a while, and that usually did the trick.

We are putting extra water in his food 20/25 ml in his breakfast and supper so he gets roughly 50 ml extra per day. We tried the pumpkin before but he smelt it, looked up at the ceiling and walked away lol. Also we tried syringing some into him but he hated that.
Don't know if you saw my edit in my last post, he's still dropping slowly at AM +6 :D
