6/1 - Zen - PMBG 56 - I was wrong... we're not shooting tonight. :)

Yesterday's thread

We got Zen bumped back up to good levels last night with his expected 1/4 can LC, and also supplemented with 1 tsp HC and 2 tsp MC. We went to bed and checked on him at +6, +7, +8, and +9, and when we caught him starting to do the dip again at +9, we brought the food bowl over to him and he ate a little. This morning was not low or panicked, and for that, my tattered nerves are grateful.

He got .25 this morning-- my thinking is that we can do one of two things. Either:
  1. stick to DM throughout the day instead of having him eat the Tiki Cat (supposedly 0% carb or at least close to it), and also
  2. wake up and check on him for a couple of nights, and just plan to bring him some food at +9/+10 for the next couple of nights
...while we wait for the depot to finish working its way down to his current (.25U) dose. (He seems to be an 8-cycle depot kitty.) Then, we try going back to DM + Tiki Cat and not feeding overnight unless we have to, and hopefully, a reduction!

The other option would be to keep him on the DM+Tiki Cat and just decrease again tonight to .1U . I could see an argument to be made for that, since he's gone three days in a row without an AM shot, and the depot probably doesn't have that much in it right now.

@Bandit's Mom and @tiffmaxee let me know your thoughts on the above! Thank you both, again, for all you do. Zenny and I so appreciate it. And also, thanks everyone for all of the support this weekend. A lot of us just had a weird, scary weekend, and we couldn't have gotten through it without you all! <3

By DM do you mean DM Savoury Selects which is 10% carbs?

He did not get insulin yesterday morning which is why he was high enough (relatively speaking!) for a shot last night. That may not be the case tonight. You might have to skip the shot. If that is the case I would be tempted to go down to 0.10U or even a drop dose to see how he fares.

We normally advocate higher carbs for cats who are seeing a lot of blues and need some insulin support before they can go OTJ. To my mind, Zen is not one of those. He has not even bounced very much yesterday - even without insulin in the AM - from that 37 he saw at AMPS.

I think he is ready to go down the dosing ladder and feeding him higher carbs to keep him at a higher dose seems counter-intuitive. If he stays up on DM (6% and not Selects), it might make sense to try 0.25U for a few cycles. If he will let you! :)

Nope, pate only! :cat: We're using the Savory Selects exclusively as a "you need a little bit of a sugar bump" tool right now, so he only ever gets 2 tsp at a time.

:D:D:D Amazing! Okay, we'll feed DM pate today, and if he stays up, then we try it for a few cycles. If not, he gets .1 tonight! Thank you, Bhooma!

He climbed up into the front window this morning, which is something he hasn't done in months. :cat:

Thanks, Bhooma! We may just do that. Just had to give him some HC because he was starting to look a little lethargic and was still reading in the 50's. We'll see what the day holds for us!

Zen's playing chicken with hypoglycemia today. He got down to 45 5:00p (AMPS +10) - I think we're gonna skip tonight and pick up with .1 tomorrow! SO glad I found the calipers, because that's a reeeeeeally small dose. :joyful: (.1U on the Ulticare = .125mm on the calipers) @Bandit's Mom Bhooma, I have a question: you told me how to do a drop dose yesterday, but it looks like .1U is really similar to a drop dose-- only a droplet came out when I purged the syringe this evening. They're not the same, right? .1U is slightly larger, yes?

GO ZEN!!!! It's so wonderful to see how well he's doing!

.1 units for me when I do it is two drops. I pull about a half unit of insulin into the syringe and then push it out with any air bubbles so that there's just a hair of light showing underneath the stopper at the top. Easier than using the calipers for such a small dose. I stop using the calipers with anything smaller than .25 units.

Not to derail - are pictures showing up for anyone else today? All pictures on the forum today are just white space with like a gray "do not enter" symbol (I don't know what that symbol is actually called lol)

Broken image, typically. Or not allowed.

So, not to mix work with pleasure :joyful:, but Firefox and Chrome released an update that started revoking SSL certificates today. I thought it was related only to videos, but it's not impossible that it impacted images, too.

tl;dr: clear your browser cache, close your browser, and restart your computer. If that doesn't work, you may need to upgrade to the latest firefox or chrome.

Makes me glad to not be working til kids are older :joyful: I don't miss the ssl, flash, etc phase out nonsense.

Still not showing up but I suspect because I'm on phone. And I don't know enough about it on mobile to know what I'm missing lol

I still get
s! :D:D
s when they created it. :D:D
"[ IMG ]" (this is 3rd time of typing and nothing appears after that) instead of 'do not entry' sign on firefox on a windows laptop after clearing cache. Clearly there is nothing constructive I can contribute on the diabetes front, but I am as green with envy as your s/s today! Methinks SOMEBODY won't be needing all the rows they included when they created their s/s. :D:D:D

Just seeing this. At this point, I don't think he needs a drop either but you can try the drop dose.
