My cat was diagnosed with Diabetes a few days ago and is 'close to DKA'. Its been hell but thanks to some members on this forum, Ive gotten some amazing help! Hes eating again, hes 1 week into insulin treatment and knock on wood everything's seems to be going well and my cat Wesley has started recovering (a lot left but thank god hes started improving). However. Ive noticed he cant walk well and is slipping when walking (he looks drunk when he walks) and stops after few steps and cant even use the litter box and it kills me but a member here rec Methyl B12 Zobaline...which I plan to get but wanted to ask if anyone knows of a slightly cheaper Methyl B option? Ofc I want the BEST for him but from the crazy vet bills, insulin treatment, new foods, I am barely hanging in there so thought Id ask. Thanks everyone! Sorry for the essay leading up to the question hah.

For the neuropathy most of us use Methyl B-12

This is the same thing
The only difference is the Zobaline has 200 mcgs of folic acid
So I buy the folic acid at the supermarket and crush it up and add it to the B-12
If you can't find the 200 mcg get the 400 mcg and cut it in half
The Vitacost brand is a capsule so just open it and pour the powder on the wet food
Has no taste, no need to crush it up
The Zobaline is 33.99 for 60 pills, too expensive
I saw a big improvement I'd say 3 months, could be sooner. One capsule a day.
Once you get your kitty better regulated the B-12 methyl will help

I SEE your spreadsheet is set up and have a meter, any reason why you are not entering the BG on your spreadsheet so we can see his BG in case you ever need help with dosing
Like it was mentioned on your previous post you should always test before giving insulin to be sure it's safe to shoot, both AM and PM cycles
Also advise to get another test around @+6 ( 6 hours after giving insulin)
Would be great if you could get a +3 and a+6 to see how the insulin is working for Wesley and how low it's taking him.
At night you should always test before shooting and another test before you go to bed just in case he drops too much and you might have to stay up longer.
Most cats drop lower at night. When you test him at night , then again @+3 or 4 and his BG is much lower than the PMPS number that's when you might have to stay up a little longer to be sure he's safe and might have to intervene with food to bring him back up to safe numbers
You can take a look at my SS or anyone else's to see what it looks like

It's also a good idea having some med and high carb food in the house and some honey or Karo
For your hypo kit you can get the following and also look at the food chart

Thank you so much for your replies! Everything you said about the medicine I am going to follow up on. The one that was $9.94 for 2!! Thank you. And ya the Zobaline was a bit pricey thats why I was hoping for something a bit cheaper. I wanna get him the best of course but if I cant afford Zob I wanted some more options do thank you! And yep I already purchased the Fancy Feast and some zero carb food (Tiki) but idk why but he doesnt like chewing. I dont know if this is all related but he like cant chew now not sure what the heck is happening. But for now liquid food with very mashed up meat where he can lick has worked and thank god because he didnt eat for over 1 week it was awful but FINALLY hes eating AND has an appetite again!

Yes the vet said some basic issues that happen to every pet but nothing that is major right now. Ugh I feel so bad for Wes my cat. Sweetest thing ever and has been with me through the good, bad, and down right horrific moments of my life. Always there for me so hes more than just a cat. Ordering the Methyl B now so I can get it asap and start treatment and will continue the liquid/mashed foods bc he does really enjoy it and will plan a follow up appt for his teeth next week when I can pay for it. Pray the Methyl B works. Literally showed 0 symptoms of any of this and next day couldnt walk, chew, and etc., so heartbreaking. Thank you and bless you for all your help!

I just havent entered the values on the spreadsheet itself. I have a booklet at home with all the figures. Will add it all today! And thank you for the specifics of when to test. Helps me tremendously!

That would be great, it might take about 3 months to see an improvement for the neuropathy, could be sooner, will improve once his numbers are well regulated.
That's why we like to see his BG entered on the spreadsheet, we have no idea what they are . So when you have the time please enter them .Best of luck
