Hi Everyone,

I need to go out of town for two weeks in June and I am taking Pip over to my mom's so she can give her insulin and generally take care of her. She has a diabetic cat as well. Pip is very high stress when outside of her own home. I've left her at my mom's before for two weeks and she never 'settled in'. I went to talk to my vet about this and be prescribed 10mg Amitriptyline once a day. Couple questions:
  • Does it make the cat eat less in general--effecting BG levels?
  • What is the best way to administer this (crushed up in food)?
  • When should it be given? After breakfast and insulin administration?
TYIA!

I tried that drug for aggression for Smokey many years ago. I gave it in PM. I think I mixed with food. I saw no effect on BG or appetite. However, it di not work for aggression and changed to generic prozac.

Thanks! They prescribed it for separation anxiety and general anxiety. Thankfully she isn't aggressive.
