Looks like it was nausea triggering the drooling. She vomited this morning (hairball +) - ate a bit of ducken then walked away, fortunately she will eat the AD (only the AD!) so I got the potassium and spironolactone in her.

ETA - maybe I kinda take it back. She just came up to me asking for more food, so gave her another oz of A/D. I know it's not LC but right now I just want her eating and that's all she'll take.

Oh Minnie! :(Have you tried Cerenia with ondansetron? Might help with nausea. Also one quarter tablet Pepcid (2.5 mg twice a day) has gotten my kitties over nausea/vomiting humps.

Mindreader! I have a cerenia pill left (dose is 1/4 pill) and Pepcid...though those were from the good old days when she would take pill pockets. I have gel capsules now, and a piller...so the only struggle is to get them down her throat which so far has been 100% failure rate. Though I did manage to get her mouth open twice yesterday to get the soluble ondansetron in...have to hold her still and mouth closed for it to dissolve. Seems to take forever. Thank you!

Yes. I have lots of good suggestions, but they all hinge on prising her jaws open to get the pills in. Isn't it awful when they won't take pill pockets any more? And my mind always runs to the worst when they won't eat. I hope this is just because Minnie doesn't want to eat too much because she wants to be extra hungry for the Full Moon Pawty tonight! Darcy certainly hasn't wanted to eat much today. Mr. Darcy is sprucing himself up, and he has ordered a corsage for Minnie and is going to arrive with that in one hand and a tin of Darcines in the other. What time can she be ready? Karaoke anyone?

It's like you're inside my brain about mind running to the worst. As soon as she turned away from dinner last night, I got that familiar sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. She even refused the darcines last night (she did at least give them a sniff and a lick first). I'm back at the stage where there is no space in the fridge due to all the open cans of food (poor Sam, he has to eat up all of her rejects). At least she is taking the ad though she only ate half of the plate I put down - though it is super high calorie so 'maybe' she's just full. Except she's gone back to sit /hide under the table where she goes when she's not feeling great. I think of all the symptoms, I hate the 'not eating' the most.

I do remember about injectable cerenia though I think when I asked vet about it, it was very expensive (HA. I bet still loads cheaper than hospital) - and did they say had to be by IV? I can't remember. I am steeling myself up to trying to get cerenia pill in her. I made progress with opening her mouth for ondansetron at least. Might try burrito (which the sitter had to do for ear pricks).

I'll tell her that her date is expecting to see her for the pawty. Maybe she'll buck up her ideas, Madam Diva Mariah Minnie.

PS - back to Dirty Dancing for karaoke...."Hungry Eyes" (can't remember if they sang that already)
Exactly. I was thinking of Hungry Eyes! The injectable Cerenia (which I have heard is expensive but I don't know how much) can be given subcutaneously or through an IV. I just looked it up to make sure. I hate the not eating, too... because of all the things, not eating is always a bad sign. I hope this is just a "flare" of something that will calm down very soon!!

Me again. UGH. Injectable Cerenia is $500! Time to get serious about pilling (on the plus side, she is branching out into eating ducken again!)

ETA price update, found it online for $210. Mark's doesn't have it. Still googling. It might be worth $200 to me. Not worth $500. Interesting to learn what your own price limit is. Depends how the pilling attempt goes.

The Pepcid is very bitter. Ruby was not so happy with me the times when I have not put the pill sufficiently in the back of Ruby's mouth and she chewed it with the pill pocket. She's spit it out on me a few times as well. Poor girl.

A vial of injectable cerenia is expensive. The last time Ruby got an injection at the vet it cost $70, plus the vet fee, natch.

Poor Ruby! Yes, Minnie now refuses pill pockets even when empty. I have a bag of capsules and all the tips from last time (dip it in butter, squeeze water in her mouth after...) just need more skill / determination. And more determination than Minnie. I think she will spit it out while I try to get the water in to make her swallow. We shall see.

I am on a quest for best price of a vial. So far, $200 is not bad compared with $70 for one injection at the vet + fee! Thanks for sharing that info.

I've noticed she does this interesting rocking motion forward and back, sitting up, when she is not feeling well. Notice it most when she is sitting staring at food she won't eat. Haven't read anything about that being a sign of nausea.

I wonder how many shots you get out of that vial. Is it like a 10 mL vial of insulin? That would be a lot of shots I would guess. I then wonder if it stings? If it does, then that could ruin everything for giving insulin! It could be a nightmare. I guess you could ask a vet tech or something or the vet next time you are there. She says no to Tiny Tiger today?

I think we are having a mind meld. I have been trying to figure that out as you typed! It's a 20ml vial of 10mg/ml and dosing is 1 mg/kg (0.45 mg/lb) equal to 0.1 mL/kg (0.1 mL/2.2 lb) of body weight once daily for up to 5 consecutive days. So ~40 doses for Min (assuming my math is correct!) Good point on the stinging, will look that up though I still tend to think a quick stingy shot might be less stress than pilling.

And yes, complete refusal of TT today. That's how I KNEW something was wrong. Then refusal of darcines. Thank goodness for a/d! Though after midday a/d she went for the ducken again so I'm feeling a bit better, hoping the ondansetron taking effect.

ETA - drugs.com notes made me laugh
1 The clinician observed and graded each cat’s response to injection.
2 Cat objected to the injection by retreating and vocalizing
3 Cat objected to the injection by retreating, hissing, scratching, and vocalization

Well I don't know what happened (other than ondansetron + sleep + 3 rounds of diarrhea) but she seems to be feeling better. Woke from her nap and asked for food and ate 3 dishes of peking ducken and now sitting next to me on the sofa purring (as I am still researching injectable maropitant - there are 2 non-stingy alternatives Vetemex and Prevomax which I suspect are even MORE expensive as they are new and I can't find them for sale online). Looks like Minnie is singing 'The Joker" tonight.

The one by Steve Miller Band? Or am I dating myself...

Not dating yourself, it was re-released (ha, in the UK) around the same time as Dirty Dancing. A-ha, it was used in a Levi's commercial. How did we know these things before the internet? And I am dating myself with that!!

And you can tell Mr Darcy that Minnie had a mega-bath this afternoon. I think she was preening herself for their date. So much licking that her fur was actually damp.

:joyful::joyful: Mr Darcy is in Georgia, she LOVES his peaches!!
Oh yeah! Our peaches are the best. Right now it is clingstone time... we are awaiting free stone time. Then we have a list of varieties of peaches that will ripen one after another. My favorites are Elberta and any of the Prince varieties (Spring Prince, Gold Prince, Ruby Prince, Sure Prince, Fire Prince, Scarlet Prince, July Prince, Sun Prince, Flame Prince, etc.) I actually know the man who developed these varieties. He worked for years at the USDA Agricultural Research Center where they research and develop peach and pecan varieties. The peaches are AWESOME around here. I never liked them as much until I could get them fresh from the tree. Peach ice cream is HUGE around here. People go out to this place called Dickey Farms (one of the many fave places to get peach ice cream) and sit in their rocking chairs in this porch build onto the peach packing house and just sit and rock and eat peach ice cream under the ceiling fans. But, truth be told, they have the most incredible butter pecan ice cream in the fall when it's pecan season! Yum.
