5/25 Darcy PMPS 87 what to do? shooting 1.5 hrs late... how do I indicate that on my SS?

Hmm...I am skeptical! (moi??) You have so much more experience than I do, Suzanne, but what if you call local pharmacies to double check what they have/compound? My vet didn't know you could get sub-lingual ondansetron until I asked for it. I was so skeptical on this that I just resorted to Google. I think you are likely so busy and stressed that it might help.

Though you have to wait for it, Wedgewood Pharmacy will compound it in a choice of flavors and has chews. And of course, they won't give you a price quote without the Rx. I'm sure it's a lot more expensive compounded from them.

Ooh, 1-800-pet-meds Q&A (from 4 years ago)
QUESTION- I see from 3 years ago this product is not flavored. Is that still the case? I am looking for Lactulose that is green and banana flavored. Thank you.
ANSWERS - The lactulose that we currently have in stock is Actavis Brand Fresenius Kabi MFTR. It is a natural colored unflavored solution.

Chewy says "Some animals may not like the taste of Lactulose (especially cats)." Petco says "Cats do not like the taste of Lactulose"

Petcarerx.com offers it orange flavor or unflavored.

OK that's the long answer. Short answer - that vet might only have cherry flavor but it's possible to get others. Good luck. :bighug:

I love Wedgewood Pharmacy . . . but like Elizabeth said, it takes a few days to get set up.

You know, I believe Tina had pinkish lactulose. She was off insulin at that point, but I did check her BG, and I didn't notice a change.

Amethyst and JoJo were both on Lactulose for 5 days Worked great! Maybe your doctor can give you a script for yourself. I gave them the Lactulose I have with my Vets permission It takes like Maple Syrup:cat::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Never heard of lactulose with taste....
There's an artificial sweetener that's toxic to cats, make sure it's not in there.
Other than that it might not matter.
Is it cats who can't taste sweet, or is it another species?

But maybe there was something else attractive about the cake?
Mauer loves ice cream, the creamy stuff. Not exactly cat appropriate :p
Mauer kisses back :bighug:

I believe you are right - cats seem to like bread (still carbs), even if it isn't sweet.
And of course butter that could be on the bread. Maybe cake is a substitute for bread and butter in kitty's mind. The first day after I adopted Tina, she let it be known she liked pizza dough. ;)
Never knew a cat to refuse ice cream:p

We all love Darcy!

Take a look at Darcy's SS. He's been steadily dropping all day. The only food "bump" that he got from HC renal food was this morning from 193 to 206 so he really gets no bump from HC food. I'm already late shooting. I am going to go feed him two syringes of the renal food because he is not eating anything except kibble. That brat will only eat kibble right now! And that's the last thing in the world he needs... dried out kibble. He'll be all blocked up again for sure (that's my fear). I have been giving Miralax a.m. ... and now will do again in the p.m. Help! All advice is welcome.... I used to have a (somewhat illustrious) friend/coworker who was a diplomat... one of his sayings was.... "all advice should be accompanied by a check." Well, you can give me your advice with no checks! (Does anybody even know what a check is anymore or write a check? I do sometimes.)

Well . . . Lactulose works so nicely, if cherry is ALL they have, I'd still get it. Just me thinking!
After Tina was "emptied", we used it with success, and gradually reduced the dosage over a few days, per vet.
There are some cautions about using lactulose in cats with kidney disease, so I'm not sure? I need to investigate this more.

I asked vet for Lactulose and they called me back and said it only comes in cherry flavor! I’ve never even heard of this! I am very frustrated. Will post BG later and had to go out for an appointment. He was at 116 and I am a little worried. He is low today and who knows why. No R was given!
Hi Suzanne, I wish I had answers for you, I don’t have answers for myself and Dolly. I hope his numbers come up. I hope you get answers and the meds you are looking for. I hope Darcy is eating and starts pooping. Thank you for making me laugh. I write a check to the gardener. Sending loving prayers for Darcy to be okay and you as well. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Dropping number I would be careful That is what happened to Amethyst yesterdayTake a look she hit Lime Green:eek:Took a while to bring her up and she would not eat either!!:bighug::bighug::bighug:
Thanks. I just syringe fed him. He would probably eat kibble for me. That's what I left out for him when I had an appointment this afternoon. He actually ate a lot of it. Brat! But yes... he is falling and I don't like shooting a falling number when he's ill and not eating on his own very much.

Follow your gut. You know Darcy well.

Link to yesterday's post. Nice PMPS. :D Not uncommon to nadir at preshot on Levemir. Glad to see you shot the full dose. I shot dropping PMPS (it was always night  a lot), but I also had hours (5) until onset so plenty of time to get food in before the next dose took effect.

As for the spreadsheet, I'd change the +11 for today to say "95; 87@+12" and put notes about food in the Remarks,. Then in the PMPS cell, put "119 @13.75".

Happy safe surfing tonight Mr. Darcy.

I'm now terrified to shoot a falling number, but you did an amazing job! Fred and Darcy seem to be the same in that carbs don't bring them up, much.

Good luck with the lactulose. I know you're using it already, but I found Miralax took a few days to really have its full effect. When Fred was backed up, I gave it to him both morning and night.

Glad the shot went well!
