Five years ago I moved out to a friend's ranch/winery to be an onsite person and keep an eye on things as they don't live here full time. Over time I assumed all the care and feeding and expense of all the animals including llamas, goats, sheep and outdoor cats because the owners are not very empathetic in that regard and I was happy to do it. One of the cats is about 12-13 years old and has diabetes, CKD and pancreatitis which is all controlled fairly well with a strict regimen of insulin, the correct food, phosphorus binders and vitamins (her name is Grandma). The problem is that it has come time for me to move to take care of my sick mother and I am so anxious about the care of the animals after I leave, especially Grandma. I believe the owners are finding someone to look after the animals but there's no way Grandma will get the care she needs. I am trying to find a home for her before I go or else I'll need to euthanize her. It would completely break my heart to do it but it would be more humane than letting her die a slow and painful death without treatment. Fingers crossed that someone will want to take care of this wonderful cat and give her a great home to live out her years.

Another option for getting specific attention is to edit the post title to draw attention to the key issue.

I hope you can find a solution for Grandma Kitty, sigh. Wish I were close enough...

No problem putting up the new post. I just added the link so people could see what was previously suggested. And the 911 is reserved for immediate medical emergencies. Your subject line says it all and should draw attention, I hope.

She sure looks healthy!! She's a beautiful cat!

Is there anyone who could/would take her if she magically ended up on their doorstep?

Would anyone like to road trip or fly to CA to transport her to a new home? I know I’d contribute some dollars to a flight.

Just trying to think creatively...

@Nancy Lynne What is Grandma’s vaccination status? Is she spayed?

Hello,

Grandma is such a beautiful cat :).

There is a growing # of rescues specifically for cats who are elderly &/or special needs only. I found two that look like they are potentially 2-3 hours from Plymouth. There may be additional resources where you are moving. Some of your local rescue groups (not specific to special needs) may also be able to connect you with the special needs organizations they work with. They often reach out to them when there is an elderly &/or medically managed cat in need of placement.

@Deborah & Muffy(GA) & Wendall Were you serious in the other thread about the possibility of working with Grandma? I know it’s a stretch given the distance, but I personally would rather see her go to someone from the board over a rescue (if one can even find a rescue who will take her). It would be a long trip, but one hard day in exchange for the rest of her life seems like a pretty good trade.

No pressure ... just checking options.

How is she with other cats? Do you know how she is around dogs?

If she could "magically" end up in Florida or possibly Georgia and is fine with other cats, I can take her. I live in a townhouse and the dog is not allowed upstairs, so she has plenty of space to avoid her.

I can't travel any further than Florida or Georgia right now, but can meet someone to pick her up.

Bless you all.
Grandma tugs at my heart. The big however, is I have 6 elderly cats, and a dog. I rightly can't take on the expense or heart ache ( all seniors) because my cats are expensive, and I need breaks on care taking.
Those words Magically appearing though . . .
I could magically drive possibly but my location, hmmm. Near DFW.

I appreciate all the thoughts. Grandma is up to date with all vaccinations and is spayed. She is fine with the two other outdoor cats she's been raised with but not sure how she'd be with new cats. But again, she's so mellow all she would do would be to hide. Not sure about dogs. I will check the local resources because I think flying someplace would be too hard on her, plus I physically could not do it as I have my hands full between keeping my business running and getting ready for my move. I am essentially going to be homeless for a period of time - my stuff is going in storage so I will be flying to TX, then bouncing around between family and friends for awhile in multiple states.

Bless you for offering ♥:bighug::bighug:

If we can get transport arranged from either California or Texas to anywhere in Florida or Georgia, I can take her.
@Chris & China (GA) said DCIN might be able to arrange a transport.

@Nancy Lynne If you allow @Lisa and Witn (GA) to adopt Grandma, you’ll have people on the FDMB looking in on her and following her progress. She’ll inherit an entire family.

I have flown with older cats and I wouldn’t let that deter you. They really do quite well and a flight would get her where she needs to be relatively quickly.

I have had four diabetic cats, two which were adopted knowing they were diabetic. So she will be in good hands.

Now all we have to do is get her here. :cat:

I appreciate the offer so much. I'm just trying to wrap my head around how to get Grandma to FL or GA. I cannot fly her there myself, I am taking care of 17 other animals until the day I move on 10 June plus I'm trying to keep my business afloat and pack and deal with a host of other issues. I'm open to suggestions but I am completely overwhelmed. I am trying my best for Grandma but there's only so much I can do given all the circumstances.

SNAP, in CA, offered up this resource to help with local transportation. Maybe through this site, (if there is no one near Plymouth through DCIN) one of the volunteer transporters in that area can assist with getting Grandma to the airport? I know that the transport companies typically pick up pets at the home, but in case that is an issue, this is the site:

I am on the opposite side of the state, but if for some reason they need to go to Tampa or Orlando vs direct to Jacksonville and I can be of any assistance please let me know. -Amy

@Nancy Lynne DCIN has flown cats all over the country. They actually do very well.

Just tossing this out....if you could fly with her to TX, that would get her a lot closer to GA and FL and maybe we could get her into a loving home. You can fly with her in the cabin under your seat...I think it's about $150 but arrangements do need to be made in advance. I think most carriers limit it to two per flight.

I appreciate the suggestion but I can't take Grandma with me on the plane to TX - what I have going on right now is very complicated and I've kept a lot of those details out of my posts for simplicity's sake. If I could do it I would.

No. I have sent a couple message to the email for the post on the DCIN Facebook site, but she has not responded. I also posted on the site that if there is someone closer to her that can adopt her to go ahead and offer to do so. To me it is more important that she gets into a new home, than if I am the one to adopt her.
