5/22 Snuggie: PMPS 213; +4 214 (( AMPS 347; +3.5 373

I can't advise but it looks like Snuggie needs and increase. You say your dosing method is custom on your spreadsheet but SLGS in your signature. I don't know if you can increase now if you are following SLGS. You might have to wait the full week. If you are on TR you can. Let's see if we can get some knowledgeable people to advise, Jill.

Thank you! Yea he just increased on Wednesday. Maybe it’s not enough time or maybe he needs 5.25? I’m sure the usual dose-people will chime in soon!

I do think we need to wait til Tuesday of next week to change anything. We are SLGS, but have an auto feeder on the way that hopefully our other cat will use. I am looking into TR but it just might not fit with our situation.

(I also fixed my spreadsheet now that we are actually following something!)

Well, feeling a little discouraged at +3.5...

Could it be the aluminum hydroxide we started adding to his food this week?

I started him on clindamycin for the upper respiratory infection- a few more sneezes than usual, and his eye was runny yesterday. He’s been fighting his fluids (he’s gotten maybe 25-30mL in past few days where he should have been at 100) so I know he’s not over hydrated ... could the URI drive up BG?

A URI, or any inflammation/infection, can increase the BG's. Until the AB kicks in and starts making it better. Are you giving him probiotics (2 hours apart from the AB) from the clindamycin? It's a nasty one for killing off the good tummy flora.

I doubt the ALOH is doing anything to his BG, I presume you are giving powder?

I suspect Snuggie is still bouncing from that long (to him) stretch of blues on the 19th. Bounces can take 6 cycles to resolve, and some kitties go up as they start to think about breaking the bounce. Today is cycle six, interesting to see where he goes tonight.

@Summer and Susie Before suggesting anything about dosing, look at the signature. Snuggie is getting some dry food, which precludes them from following TR.

Thanks @Wendy&Neko!! That makes me feel better.

yes he is getting the AB in the AM and his probiotic (NexaBiotic Cat, I think it’s called?) in the PM, with his two non-ALOH meals to get all his supplements in. The ALOH is a powder.

hehe yea he’s had quite a long run of bad numbers and I was shocked on Curve Day that he was in so many yellows! A few blues to his body may have been quite the shock. Thanks for the hope! :-)

Don't be discouraged, in addition to what Wendy mentioned about bouncing, with Levemir, you may find that you sometimes won't see much movement in numbers at +3.5, since onset tends to be later than you were used to with Prozinc. It definitely takes some time to get a feel for how a new insulin works. I've had some cycles where onset wasn't until +5 or even later. Those cycles are always neat, because they tend to also have nadirs close to or, at next preshot :)

Were you planning to remove the dry food once you get the autofeeder?

with his two non-ALOH meals to get all his supplements in.
You should be giving binder with all of his meals. Otherwise it'll only work on the food it's given with.

And as Christie says, those tests before onset won't tell you much unless he's in lower numbers at preshot. Like Christie, I didn't get many early tests when Neko was on Levemir.

Thanks all!

Eventually binder will be given with all his meals and the supplements (that have To be 2 hrs btwn phos) will be given just in cooled water leftover from boiling chicken breasts. But while he needs every meal to keep the lb on (wish i knew how that felt LOL) til the diabetes is under control this is the best we can do.

yes eventually if his sister can adapt to the auto feeder I’d love to get him off dry food. Fingers crossed!!
