When single ladies get to the age of 50, they tend to get lots of cats.
.....This phenomenon is known as many paws.

Okay, here we are in Feline Diabetes Adventure Land once again. Squeaky's been fussy about eating lately, and showing me lower numbers. He's cranky about the extra ear pricks recently, and looks like we're going to have an extra prick today, too. But, on the bright side, things could be worse! And we are infinitely grateful for this group, especially each one of you who looks in on us and guides us.

Wishing everyone an excellent day!

Oh you know that is soooo funny. Squeaky was my 50th birthday present to myself! LOL!

Hi Jan! I see that Squeaky is eating today, which is great! I know how much he hates those pokes but maybe you should hold off feeding him again until you can test him at +4? Maybe by then he'll be willing to let you test him again to make sure he's not dropping too much. He's seeing some good numbers that he's probably not so used to so he feels a bit crappy but hopefully that will improve. Hugs to you!

I'm glad Squeaky ate some for you at +2. I hope he keeps surfing safely. Cats don't always eat as much when they're in lower numbers because their bodies process food better as opposed to higher numbers.

Another great joke, Jan! Great birthday present to yourself. Nice blues, Squeaky.

Thanks Gals! I always appreciate your messages!!!! And encouragements! Glad to know people read the jokes.

We had a bit of an "argument" last night at shot time when he wouldn't eat. But he will eat kibble if I give it to him....... so at least I have one way to keep him from dropping too much. Sometimes if I give him 3 pieces of kibble, it gets him started and then he'll eat other things. Last night he just walked away from all attempts to feed him except the kibble.

Today, Squeaky has been eating intermittently and I also gave him a bit of kibbles (carbs) to make sure he would not drop too much. He's looking good and a bit more cheerful now too. I'll test soon. Trying to figure out nadir..... +6?

@Bandit's Mom @PerfumedCatMom So I tested at +5.5 and he was 55. I gave him some kibbles and some ham baby food so he wouldn't go lower. (Katherine instead of testing and feeding, when I know he's low, I skip the test and just feed! He really doesn't do well if I test too much.)

Bhooma, looks like we've already earned a reduction on this plan! Do you think it is okay to reduce this quickly? Thank you.

Jan, I'm here to encourage and help, not to dictate. You do as you need to do for your cat. Don't worry about it! :bighug:

I believe with SLGS, you reduce the dose immediately by .25 if Squeaky drops below 90, regardless of how many cycles have passed. Tagging @Wendy&Neko @carfurby @thebigfuzz for confirmation.

PS: Please change your signature to include the change to SLGS so that those who might not have noticed that you are no longer following TR know how to help when you ask. :)

Signature changed! Thanks for the reminder! :bighug::):cat: Also I appreciate hearing all points of view because I'm not always so smart LOL. o_O We're trying an adapted GSGL with reductions at 60....... Hoping that he doesn't drop so fast and then have a speedy rise again like he did last time. We want his insulin to go down slowly and stay down! I appreciate those who are coaching me on this!

Yes to an immediate reduction, on next shot. With SLGS, we don't do shooting through the bounce like you did on May 13th, which is sometimes suggested when you follow TR. I thought last week you were only going to reduce under 80? https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...3-3-5-151-pmps-310-6-108.247188/#post-2788417

I would have given 80 a try, if that is what you had felt comfortable with, I'm not sure what changed?

I don't want you to feel like I have an issue with what you are doing, because I don't, and ultimately it's up to you :). From a safety perspective, I think I highlighted some things to consider when adjusting SLGS, so FWIW, I'll link it again. https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...3-considering-what-to-do.246116/#post-2777201

But, this post I think sums it up much better, it's worth reading, or perhaps re-reading Protocols: Myths Debunked

Particularly post #37 and #61

A definite reduction is called for with a 55 at 5.5. You are SLGS so please take the reduction and keep an eye on Squeaky.
