5/10 Snuggie AMPS 403, +5 386, PMPS 346, +4 286, +6 290 (Day 1 Levemir)

Hi all -

We gave the first Levemir injection today! AMPS BG was 403, gave 5u.

(We didn’t switch to 5.5u ProZinc the last few days because I wasn’t sure if we’d be home to monitor in the afternoon so better safe than sorry - we were starting to see more 300s and even a 200 on 5u ProZinc.)

Planning on a +5 or +6 today then PMPS and likely a +3 before bed.

So I have a few things about Levemir that I need to confirm:

1) dont roll or shake the pen prior to filling syringe
2) keep open pen and unopened pens in fridge? I’m seeing info on Levemir websites that says store open pen at room temperature?
3) store open and unopened pens on side or vertically?
4) since we use syringes and not the pen mechanism, did I need to prime the pen?

We like questions! Don’t roll. Humans keep at room temp because they don’t use syringes to inject and thus need to prevent problems with the mechanism in the pens. Storing in the fridge you will be able to use it to the last drop. A box of 5 pens lasted me over a year. It doesn’t matter if on its side or upright. Don’t prime the pen.

another question - I know it takes time to build the depot and to be patient with results... we had been getting lots of pinks and an occasional yellow on ProZinc. Would it be normal to maybe see higher BGs (more reds) this week as the depot builds? Or should I just kind of let it do its thing and just worry about numbers that are too low?

FYI +5 was 386

Sorry, my crystal ball is out for repairs. :p I've seen reactions all over the place, which is why we suggest people do the switch when they can monitor closely the first couple cycles.

LOL!! That makes sense. That’s why I’m glad I waited til today - just like clockwork, in my office or right by the office door all day. :-)
