Hi there! I'm brand new to FDMB - hopefully I'm doing this right.
My cat Sunny Bear was diagnosed two weeks ago with a level of 570 at the vet and he's been getting 1.5 units of ProZinc twice a day. I dabbled with checking his blood glucose with a human monitor but I've only been getting comfortable with doing it over the past week. He also just had a Freestyle Libre attached 2 days ago.

The human glucose monitor has shown highs of ~340 to ~400 before feeding and insulin The freestyle has shown higher numbers but I've read not to trust those numbers.

And the lows I have been seeing were around 225 midday.

He's also very irritated by the FL. I had to put a dog shirt on him today to keep him from licking around it.

Today for the first time, I saw his bg go down to 120! I had not seen it below 250 at any time before today.
I'm attributing this to us switching him from royal canin glycobalance dry and wet -- to Fancy Feast Pate 2 days ago. I do see his numbers creeping back up now though - last I checked was 225 (manual ear prick).

What worries me is that over the past couple of hours he got really cranky with me which is totally unusual for him. I don't know if it's the sweater and the FL bothering him or if there's something wrong. This was really surprising that he got so cranky. I was just petting him on his perch, and he hissed and acted like he might bite me. I immediately took his bg and it was 136 at the time (using manual ear prick).

Also, what is the threshold for his bg tonight for me to decide whether to give it or not? Or a reduced dose? Sorry I do not have a spreadsheet put together yet. Working on that.

Thank you for your help!

We recommend no insulin in the beginning if the pretest is under 200. I am glad you are seeing better numbers. That dry food is very high carb so it doesn’t surprise me that they came down. Withought seeing a spreadsheet I can’t really give dosing advice. With the food change you would probably want to hold that dose and see what happens.

Thanks @JanetNJ

Thanks everyone! I have been testing him this afternoon and his numbers are back up in the high 200s so I will administer insulin with his dinner tonight. Will get my spreadsheet together. Thanks for the link and all the help so far.
