    Hey Everyone,
We just got news 3 days ago that our cat is diabetic. With covid we were not able to get a 1 on 1 with the vet to go through all the QA. After 6 injections we are pretty comfortable with the ear pricks and insulin shots.

The vet has requested we do a blood glucose curve which we will do this weekend. We both work very busy jobs so we started with insulin and will spend the week doing the analysis

We started with 1 unit of insulin every 12 hours, Proxy is 7kg/15lbs. We are noting that her glucose is still really high even with the insulin, her readings are coming in at 20-23mmol/L before every insulin shot. I imagine there is some trial and error on calculating the dose, but after 6 shots should we be seeing the insulin take effect? We are using Prozinc/Caninsulin brand.

Just looking for some guidance for the initial first 2 weeks. I am worried that the shots are not working as they are supposed to. What type of drop in glucose does insulin usually do???

Prozinc and Caninsulin are 2 totally different insulins. Which insulin are you using?
Have you looked at the Sticky notes, at the top of the forum? Especially the one about the Prozinc Dosing Methods?

It is Prozinc. I have not yet, I will definitely start researching that thread.

    Hello,

I am just starting the process of understanding DM, I am using 1 unit of prozinc every 12 hours. I am finding it definitely is dropping her levels. They are quite high does anyone have an idea of when I can expect to see Proxy balance? Or is 1 unit likely not enough??

We have been extremely consistent with our schedule, food portions and units of insulin. For food Proxy was put on homemade chicken with vitamin supplements and weruva chicken Frick a zee. Eating that for about 8 days straight now
When she started her blood was 21-24 mmol on average. Over these 10 days she was trending down to 15-18mmol at the beginning and end of her cycles.

Today in the morning we tested and she was 24mmol we gave the 1 unit of insulin came home and she was at 12mmol. After we gave her the night insulin shot, her blood sugar went up from 12 to 19. Does this make any sense, what should I be doing different?

Another update. We just got our best reading yet 8.8mmol. this was at 11 hour mark of cycle. I've only been able to do 1 curve and noticed she usually hits the bottom at hour 5-6.

This morning at 6:00am we got a read of 24.0 mmol we gave 1 unit at 6:30 at 17:00 she is at 8.8mmol. we have been giving 1 unit of insulin. Reading prozinc guidelines it says dont shoot at this range, go 10/25% of regular dose. I will take another test in an hour but what does the community suggest. We are on day 11 since her diagnosis
