Hey Everyone,
We just got news 3 days ago that our cat is diabetic. With covid we were not able to get a 1 on 1 with the vet to go through all the QA. After 6 injections we are pretty comfortable with the ear pricks and insulin shots.
The vet has requested we do a blood glucose curve which we will do this weekend. We both work very busy jobs so we started with insulin and will spend the week doing the analysis
We started with 1 unit of insulin every 12 hours, Proxy is 7kg/15lbs. We are noting that her glucose is still really high even with the insulin, her readings are coming in at 20-23mmol/L before every insulin shot. I imagine there is some trial and error on calculating the dose, but after 6 shots should we be seeing the insulin take effect? We are using Prozinc/Caninsulin brand.
Just looking for some guidance for the initial first 2 weeks. I am worried that the shots are not working as they are supposed to. What type of drop in glucose does insulin usually do???
