Between a newly diagnosesd diabetic kitty and a newly diagnosed kidney disease kitty, I'm feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. I know, have patience. Something I am not good at as you will see from my spreadsheet. Tonight I decided to start over and go back to 1u as it seems Shooter goes up more as he gets more insulin. This might prove wrong down the road but for now SLGS, right?

As for my ckd kitty, I've read and heard different things from different people/vets. I've heard doesn't matter what as long as it's canned food ONLY. I've heard even ckd kitties should have high protein and to only worry about the phosphorous. I've also heard keep the protein and phosphorous both low. I'm torn with trying to find a food Koda will actually eat. He's very picky. He will eat a LITTLE wet food but he likes his crunchy food. He will NOT eat any raw anything - not venison, not fish, not beef. :(

I would go back to 1.5 units in the morning. And hold that dose for 7 days, or 14 cycles as per SLGS. Unless Shooter goes under 90, in which case you reduce to 1.25 units.

With CKD kitties, it depends what stage of CKD they are in. In all cases you want lower phosphorus. For protein, early stage CKD kitties do well with good quality protein to keep their muscle mass. In later stages, lower protein may help. If you haven't been there already, this website is a really good one. http://www.felinecrf.org/

I fed my ckd cat Weruva foods. They have a lot of good low phosphorous choices. You don't have to worry about the protien unless they are in late stage 3 or stage 4. Otherwise they can get muscle wasting from too low of protien. So you are looking for phosphorous under 1%. Depending on the level, sub q fluids might be recommended too. I always start fluids around 2.8 creatnine. Some wait until the level is over 3-3.5 There's a good support group on Faceboook called Cats with Chronic Renal Failure.

Ok thanks for your input. I'll go back to 1.5 for Shooter tonight then hold there for a week.

Glad to hear not to worry too much about protein for Koda for now at Stage 2. I ordered Weruva Slide and Serve since he won't eat chunks of anything. Pate only (if I can get him to eat much wet at all). According to his vet he's at Stage 2 for kidney disease. His creatinine is 2.3 & Bun/urea is 35. She also thinks his thyroid is just beginning to act up and his pancreas as well. :(
