Can't find info in forums. Bought a keyoBM meter. Do I need to wait two hours after he eats? Found the chart reading on FB. Do I test once a week? Thanks...

I have a Freestyle Precision Neo ketone meter and never wait 2h after feeding to test. For me, I decide to test blood ketones when my kitty's BG is high and/or if he seems "off" in any way (this could be vomiting, not eating, looking weird, whatever).

I will leave it up to the more experienced members to advise on how often you should test. I was doing it daily but have slowed down a bit. Depends on your kitty but like I said, I'll leave that to the pros here!

Here's info from posts on FDMB:

Ketones, Ketoacidosis, and Diabetic Cats: A Primer on Ketones
Ketones, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), and Blood Ketone Meters

The second link above has info about when ketones appear in felines on a blood meter (2.4-2.55).

I don't have any experience with DKA but did test my insulin-regulated kitty once a week on the blood ketone monitor (he had no history of ketones). I believe if a kitty is unregulated, the kitty should be tested daily (urine or blood test). Just my two cents. Additionally, I never worried about recent food for the ketone reading though you could do your test at one of your PS times for ease of routine.
