4/24 Gizzy, +9=82, 93, AMPS=173, +1.5=219, +3=258, +6=362, +8.5=291, +10=300

It was a late nadir but totally safe. Don’t be scared by greens. That’s needed to get control. Please don’t even think about keeping him in the 200’s. That’s how insulin resistance happens and then more and more insulin will be needed. I’d suggest looking at the spreadsheets of other cats that are green. @Butters & Lyla is one.

I know Elise tagged me as an example of managing a cat in green numbers. But I went through a period of Butters being insulin resistant and it was difficult to break through it. Avoid it if you can by allowing Gizzy to be in those lower, healing greens. It will be healthier for him, too.
You can see how the insulin resistance played out on Butters's spreadsheet. It started in mid October 2020. She was in the hospital and they withheld her insulin, but then she came home and I was scared to increase initially even though she needed it. Next thing I knew, she wasn't responding to increases. I just looked at her spreadsheet and realized I had to go from .5u dose up to 4.25u before I broke through the insulin resistance.

About those greens, you can see from Butters's spreadsheet linked in my signature how I feed her and test her to manage those greens and keep her safe. We will help you learn how to feed Gizzy's curve and keep him safe. The more greens he has, the quicker you will get used to them and they won't seem so scary.

Need to run out for a minute, I'll catch up shortly.

I understand that we need to be green to be the healthiest for him, it just makes me nervous. I've dealt with hypo a couple of times with my other diabetic and we got through it. She had no symptoms but it's still scary. Anyway, I will definitely take a look at Butters ss. Thank you for being here. With you guys here I can do this.

I'm sorry you went through hypo situations with your other kitty. That must have been terrifying :bighug:
You absolutely can lean on this group and trust that you will be supported when you need/want it. Everyone on here puts the safety of the cats first and foremost.
I was very scared and had a lot of help here from Elise, Sue and others when butters first started getting green numbers. They helped me and were so patient until I was confident I could manage her greens on my own. Now I will shoot a 50 without batting an eye, and she has given me many opportunities to do this:joyful:.

Re - Oct 2020, Butters - Was it necessary to withhold her insulin because she wasn't eating?? Could they have given glucose through iv and continue insulin?

At first they actually withheld her insulin because she was under 300 and that was their threshold/policy for giving insulin, because in their opinion a cat who is below 300 is a controlled diabetic .Then the internal medicine vet told me she decided butters was in remission so she withheld insulin until butters went high and I guess I wore them down a little. I kept telling her Butters's numbers are normal because she is getting insulin, but this vet was dismissive of everything I said.

My current vet absolutely loves butters's numbers now and has nothing but praise for how tightly controlled she is. The IM vet he works with would never withhold insulin like that.
