4/22/21 Squeaky!!! - PMPS=356, +6.5=368 AMPS= 391 +6=384 PMPS=401 not so great

Good morning. I think an increase is a good idea. Good luck.

Hey Elise, if Squeaky has glucose toxicity, does this mean I just keep giving him more and more insulin and then he dies anyway because it doesn't work?

Or does it eventually kick in. He was up to 4 units before.

The Canadian pharmacy says order insulin now for the summer. If I need to keep increasing the amount, then the 3 pens I have won't be enough, right?

Thanks.

Butters had some glucose toxicity before. It is not a death sentence, not even close:bighug:. But you want to break through it. I basically had to chase her high bg numbers by increasing her insulin from 1u. When I got to 4.25u, that was her breakthrough dose (ie the dose where we broke through the glucose toxicity). She suddenly stayed pretty green and I then had to take a number of reductions. If you look at her 2020 spreadsheet from October - December you can see how this played out. I was doing TR and a lot of testing, so I took increases every 6 cycles like clockwork to try to do all I could to get ahead of her being stuck in high numbers.

I know testing is a challenge for you and squeaky. All you and all of us can do is try our very best within our and our cats' limitations. :bighug:

:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: Thank you!!!! I am sooooo jumpy about everything!!! Relief!!!

This whole diabetes thing has been a tremendous challenge. I am now holding steady with 4 tests a day, 2 shots a day, 2 inhalers a day, 1 pill a day, 2 doses of morphine a day, 1 B12 shot a week, cleaning up tons of wet litter, juggling four or five different kinds of food, and cleaning up GI distress when it happens plus interrupted sleep...... oh and did I mention paying for this stuff? ..... if I can keep my emotional state balanced that is already very good. With more tests, more upset feelings, both Squeaky and me. I could also tell you about all the other life challenges I am facing at the same time. I even had to get rid of my houseplants (2) to try to decrease my stress level, and today I'm taking down the outdoor bird feeder..... anything to decrease the demands on me and the stress.

Thank you for your help and support! It means so much!

When reductions are taken too quickly insulin resistance rears its head often. I’m glad once you break through and go back to SLGS you will take reductions at a lower number. That will help avoid this again I think. Don’t get discouraged and don’t be surprised if the breakthrough dose is the highest you have ever seen. It will be temporary. :bighug:

Relief, thank you so much. All good to know. I have 3 insulin pens left, seems I should order more before the warm weather just to make sure I don't run out before autumn.

Poor Squeaky, he's feeling lousy today. Hope we can get him feeling better soon. When he doesn't feel good, neither do I.

Thank you for your continued wisdom and caring, Elise. It means more than you know. (Tears in eyes)
