Morning everyone! Thanks for sticking with me yesterday. The saga continues. Advice please.

1. I am sticking with 4.75u L. Hope this is what we agreed.
2. Should I give the 0.5u R with AM shot? I'm thinking/concerned about ketones but also aware this is a bounce and afraid if I wait that it will coincide with L nadir

She has started eating a little on her own! Not enough yet but progress. She does NOT trust me though. After I lay down to sleep, she helped herself to some of Sam's DM. This morning when I fed him and wasn't looking, she sneaked up and had a tiny bit of his so I gave her peking ducken and she ate ~1oz.

I’m glad she’s eating on her own some. I don’t know anything about R so I can’t help. I hope Wendy will be on for guidance but with Easter I don’t know.

@Wendy&Neko

If you got enough sleep and are able to monitor, I would give R at AMPS. She's bouncing hard - to be expected.

Yeah for a bit of eating!

Oh yeah, it's Easter! Happy Easter! Thanks @Wendy&Neko @tiffmaxee

Not sure I got 'enough' sleep but I can monitor. It is AMPS +1 so I will do the R 'now' once I get her out from under the table - I think she read your message because she jumped up to the chair immediately!

Gave her 28ml plus she ate a little more and drank water. She let me know it was time to stop feeding.

I could not take my eyes away from your thread yesterday. I breaks my heart to see what Minnie, and you, are going through. I'm really, really hoping (praying) that your little kitty gets better, stabalizes, eats well and does not need to return for hospitalization. You are doing an amazing job. I would be in a total breakdown dealing with poor Minnie. Easter Sunday - a miraculous day. I hope you and Minnie get your miracle.

Hope you might be able sneak in a little cat nap later :cat:. It is good to hear she is eating and drinking a little on her own, although what a cheeky girl, stealing Sam's DM. Where was that immediate bump up in numbers when we really needed them yesterday?! Happy Easter, Liz, hoping Minnie continues to improve.

Thanks everyone. It does not feel like I'm doing a good job so I really appreciate the morale boost. I think I'm teetering on the edge of breakdown but too much adrenaline/work to do. I've never dealt with a sick cat before so I'm constantly fearing the worst but when I talked to the tech she was so matter of fact and confident. Didn't help my confidence though that she insisted they'd been giving Minnie 100ml/feed throughout her stay until I pointed out she only got the tube the night before "oh, I didn't know that". It's frustrating when they continually say you can always phone if you have questions but then end up speaking to people who don't know your situation at all.

Again, SO appreciative of this group. Keeping my sanity (just by a thread, but that's better than the alternative!)

I just looked at the clock and thought - time to check BG, give more food, clean the stoma (scary and she did not like me looking at it yesterday). Then I looked at her and she is finally sleeping peacefully.

No rest for the wicked, or cat-nurses! Time to clean syringes and plates. I don't remember where I read a list of things to get to help with feeding tubes but huge thanks whoever it was - especially a tray and a magic bullet.

Gave 55ml at potassium time. Her tummy was gurgling away after, maybe due to the extra water to rinse after because the Weruva slurry is a little stickier. 100ml is a lot when it's through that tiny tube. She is sometimes interested in food but small appetite. Today she started trying to eat during the tube feeding, both times so I pause and start again when she stops.

After the 2 disappointing Libre readings I was going to post and ask about another R dose, then I took an ear sample and back down into the 200s!

Even I am fed up with the 2 monitor system (queen of parallel running!) but I have to remove the kittykollar to get the reading so sometimes it's actually easier to do an ear prick. Also I'm trying to get a ketone reading but haven't got enough blood. It's a bit strange I still get a bit wound up at wasting those $2 strips after all I've paid the vet hospital! Still, I should get a decent Costco rebate this year.

I can NOT get used to her looking so sick and sleeping without worrying what else is going on with her over and above everything I know about! (potassium, BG, ketones, possible pancreatitis and the e-tube). BUT feeling 100% better than this time yesterday. (me, at least. She is very stoic and won't confide in me. She doesn't trust me any more).

Hope everyone having a good Easter and kitties are well. I haven't had time to check in on anyone!

I'd wait until or if you see her numbers start to head back up. Today it doesn't look like R did a lot, but it could have kept the lid on the bounce which is a good thing.

Got it. Though if you only look at the ear prick numbers, R could get some credit for this?- +1.5 330 0.5u R, +4 333, +6 270

urine ketone dip test negative again, phew.

110ml is a LOT through the tube. She gets fed up before half of that. We have follow up tomorrow with the internist, I will ask about a more calorie dense (a/d or royal canin recovery is what was recommended here). This is not sustainable for either of us, and she hates it. Her eyes track the syringes wherever I take them.

Don't remember if I mentioned - they re-tested triglycerides, bang in the middle of normal range vs >3000 the week before. They stopped the bezafibrate...just when it arrived from Wedgewood pharmacy! (they had give us a few pills to tide us over). Definitely wasn't the change in food, there's nothing she had that was so high fat. Will be interested what she has to say, doesn't seem likely to me the meds worked so fast.

Interesting on the triglycerides. Had they tested it more than once >3000? The other cat (Ming) that I remember had fatty blood, his was practically pink. His caregiver worked at a vet clinic so saw it all the time.

More smaller meals would be my go to for the feeding. Even assist feeding I broke down to 6-8 times per day. I had a hepatic lipidosis foster who used to jump in the laundry basket to "hide" from me. It was perfect, I could get at him from above and he was more or less stuck in place. The a/d and Recovery are smoother, you don't need to add as much water to make it work in the syringe - meaning less volume to put down.
Though if you only look at the ear prick numbers, R could get some credit for this?
Lev onsets in there too. Which is why if you give R at Lev preshot, you have a better idea which insulin did what. And the R action is mostly out of the way by the time the Lev onset, but the Lev has a nicer lower number to work with.

I can relate to what you're going through:bighug:. I went through an awful time with Butters being very sick in October, and I don't think I ever would have been able to get her well again without the help of so many generous people here. It was a long, very slow road for her, but she got back to good health and I hope and pray for the same for Minnie.

Oh, and I remember being terrified to sleep for the first few nights. I kinda slept on the couch and the living room floor with her, lol. Not fun, but we do what we need to to make sure our furbabies are okay:bighug:. Keep doing what you're doing. You'll get into a routine soon enough and it won't seem as overwhelming:bighug::bighug:.

And please don't even worry about checking on other kitties on the board. We know you have your hands full. Please draw on as much support here as you need. We all want to help you help Minnie get healthy again.

Liz I am so glad to hear that Minnie is eating some food on her own and negative ketones!Yay!
It is very stressful having a beloved sick kitty ....if only they could tell us how they feel!
But you are doing an almighty job caring for her. :bighug::bighug::bighug: Make sure you get some rest...that is important too!

@Wendy&Neko What do you suggest about the R? Vet instructions were R if BG>300. Ear prick result under / Libre over. I'm thinking with the amount of sleep I've had it's better to hold off.

Blood ketone 4.2 (vet said it takes a while to go down) but earlier urine ketone still negative and she doesn't smell of them. Gave her a big 107ml LC feed (fuzzy brain, I think it was 60+35+12ml tube) then PMPS was DOWN an hour later.

Oh Lyla, thanks so much for writing this. It's like you're inside my head. Also encouraging that they can get through this. I've never had a sick cat like this so it all seems futile to me, not seeing her improve but I have nothing to compare it with.

I am sleeping on the couch! so I can hear her (that's how I discovered her loud "stealth" eating after lights-out) and so she can't hide under the bed.

I'm so sorry to hear of what you went through with Butters, I had no idea even though you are one of people I follow (it still feels a bit stalkerish to me). She's lucky to have you (and so am I!!) :bighug:

YES. It is so hard just looking at her and wondering what's the problem. Clearly veterinary care is not my vocation. I did get a couple of hours rest, felt a lot better. Need to eat now! Thank you for being so diligent in reminding me about that part. :bighug:

Interesting on the triglycerides. Had they tested it more than once >3000?

No, this was first appointment with the new internist. She said she saw something in the bloodwork that made her ask for the triglyceride test. When things settle I can check old labs (I typed them all onto lab tab in the s/s) but it can't have ever been that high, NOBODY would miss that. It was after 2-3 meals of FF Flaked Trout Feast which I gave as a treat to encourage her eating - 48% fat/ 48% protein / 4%, and she had that weird diarrhea that looked like undigested food on the way home from that dr appt.

We have follow up with the internist tomorrow, first I've talked to her since new triglyceride # so I'll ask what she thinks.

Liz I good luck with the vet visit tomorrow. I've been following your posts.
Poor baby. I'm happy to hear she's been eating on her own a little.
Praying for Minnie that she starts to feel better ♥
She's a beautiful girl :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Glad I held off on the R, BG dropping a bit @ nearly +2 so I'm guessing will be an active cycle and she's clearing the bounce?

I'm going to eat then give her some more LC food (50ml left to go). Want to get ahead of a drop (looking at night of 3/31 as comparison, although in hospital).

She is sleeping by the front door still but more in her usual sleeping pose than earlier though I guess that could be wishful thinking.

Sorry I wasn't on earlier. Probably a good call on skipping the R cause she was coming down in to PMPS. Not sure it's bounce clearing though.

Everything you are doing is helping her:bighug:. It is just a very long, slow process for our tiny kitties. For example, I was just looking back on Butters's ss. It was several days after she came home from the hospital before she even had the energy just to groom a single paw, and two weeks before she did any additional grooming:eek:.
I made sure I gave butters some time alone to rest and recover whenever I could, which helped I think, for her to have times when she knew I wasn't going to be handling her.
Look out for the tiniest of improvements, like you thinking you saw her more in her usual sleeping pose. That's something positive:bighug:.

+6 3:30am. Glad we're going to vet tomorrow, urine ketones back to moderate and I can smell them. Wondering about UTI, she is leaving a trail of drips when she leaves the tray and when I picked her up the floor under her was damp. Gave her the last potassium and last food of the 24h cycle. Gurgly tummy but she's resting now on the sofa (there goes my comfy sleeping place!). Back to napping.
