4/3 Minnie home w/tube, PMPS 105, +1 148, +3 342, +5 370

I believe I have read that the Karo on the gums goes into the blood stream faster than if ingested.

Is she testing over or under 40?

How long has it been since you fed food and Karo? Guidelines say to test after 15 to 20 minutes. Maybe it's time to retest.

I'll keep responding to get more eyes on your post!

Don't put the sugar in the tube, it can getting things sticky in there. It is best directly on gums, keep checking every 15-20 minutes, and give more syrup on gums, until she is above 50. The syrup can wear off quickly, so you'll need to keep monitoring.

Sometimes the Libre can give lower readings, are you able to check her with your own meter, just so we can see what that number is?

I'll be back in 10 minutes, I just need to check on Mav.

called hospital er dr said give the full 100ml feed through tube, check BG in an hour. I don't like those instructions tho

I would not wait an hour to test. I’d put more syrup on the gums and I don’t know how if a full 100 ml of food is too much a once. It might be too much. How much have you been feeding?

she only came home at 1pm. They were feeding 2 or maybe 3x day with shot. They were giving R so I think causing a bunch of bounces will need to figure out later, also i am thinking 5u L maybe too high but again to figure later

I gave her 3ml of slurry to test it out @+7 then another 3ml @+8 when it dropped to 64. Have a bunch of tubes ready to go. Slurry is w/d food which i think is high carb.

I can’t stay as I’m heading out right now but I wouldn’t give a full feed at once. It might make her vomit. I’d try giving some HC through the tube if you can blitz it down. Also honey on gums. You can keep putting small amounts of honey in the gums as needed to bring up the BG. Not too much though.
And I agree to test frequently as we do on the forum.
She has probably relaxed now she’s home with her loved ones and the BG has dropped... bless her

I would do more slow feeding and definitely karo on gums. And of course test every 15 max 20. If I'm wrong on the timing somebody will say so. OR maybe you just check the libre every 15

35 ear prick @+8.5
gave 6ml w/d slurry by tube feed
47@8.75 - 62 ear prick

(how can you NOT panic?! and i need to be an octopus, not enough fingers and they're all sticky)

I’d test every 20-30 as long as you are giving food. You don’t want to prick the ear every 15. That’s the advantage of having the Libre. In between you can check the Libre.

What mc do you have?

trying to catch up on advice, thanks all for hopping on. I can breathe a bit til next test. The feeding tube instructions were
blend 2 cans w/d with 30ml water and administer 100ml per feeding (total cal per feed 80). per Dr Lisa w/d is 25% carb

See @Suzanne & Darcy 's post #20, I'd go with less as she has noted. I went and looked at my measuring cup, since I'm awful with ml and that's too much at once. As others noted, you run the risk of her vomiting or popping the tube out.

With these low numbers WD is good and it’s not super high carb Maybe you can pick up some AD on Monday. It is easy to mix. I’ve syringed it.

Wow, I can't understand why I would be told to not give Darcy no more than 30 mL per feeding and that's such a huge difference between 30 and 100. When I syringe feed sick cats, I would never give them 100 mLs!! That would be 10 - 10 mL syringes. It's unheard of. And they told me vomiting was bad and could displace the tube.

they wouldnt let me in for a demo either. once we get thru this interested in levemir dosing advice. they said stick at 5 but i'm not convinced, she;s been low every day in hospital then they gave IV dextrose then added 0.5uR when she boucnced

Yes. A/D is the ultimate in syringe feeding. It is ground sooooo finely... the finest pate made probably (although maybe Royal Canin has an equivalent). Most cats really like the A/D flavor by the way (must be the pork).

ok, i gave her 6ml via the tube since it was in front of me. Stomach gurgled a lot. BG going up

+8 45
@+8.5 35 ear 6ml tube feed
@8 45m, 47 libre/ 62 ear

Yes, I'd hold off on syrup now, and I think it's ok for the other 12 ml, since it seems the small amount worked to get her tummy a little more settled as well. it's just a little more than what Suzanne's vet instructions were. How are you doing?

@Suzanne & Darcy is that too much within a short time frame?

gave 12ml slurry had to pause (licking lips at the 6ml water flush at the start), libre now at 47

@17:05 66
@17:15 60libre
@17:20 50libre
@1730 50libre
12ml food
@1745 47libre

The food may still take a little time before the carbs hit the blood stream, it is typically 20-30mins. I hate to ask, but can you cross-check with your meter again. How is Minnie feeling otherwise? The little sweetie much be tuckered out.

80 on the ear / 67 on the libre

She does not look well. A few min ago she twitched ears and opened eyes couple of times when I called her name, though she isn't now

Oh poor dear, she's been through a lot, and having been at the vet's they really do take a little time to readjust. Let her rest for a while, see if you can get her comfy, and check her Libre in 30 minutes. While it is nice to have it available, I believe you can still see a little variance in readings, and most of those numbers would be within an allowable tolerance. I'm pondering the dose for tonight, she may need a token dose, but let's see where she goes up till preshot.

she is now if I shout. I can't decide if it's time to go back to hospital or she's just tired? It's like a different cat to what they described this morning.

Internist was pretty definite we want to keep the insulin because of her ketones, I just have a feeling the 5u is too much based on today and what was happening in hospital...I just think they made her bounce a lot by giving IV dextrose for the low numbers then extra 0.5u R when she bounced over 300. I put it into the s/s.

How is she compared to when you picked her up from the vet's? Did they leave you with any instructions as to what to watch for when she is home?

Right now she is not really doing anything when I touch her, but she seems really tired too. She's twitching her tail a bit. If I call her name loudly she raises her ears but - wait. Brother Sam just jumped down from his cat tree and she opened her eyes to look at him, then back to sleep.

81 on the libre @+10.25 (up from 67, fifteen min ago). Seems that the food kicking in.
