Good morning Kitty Cats and their caregivers:):cat:

Sending healing prayers and love to sweet Susanne. She is going through the very painful loss of her precious Jax, a loss for us all. He will be so missed. Susanne has been with me almost daily from the beginning of Dolly's post remission journey. She's been a wonderful friend. I hope, selfishly, Susanne and Benji stick around. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

the first lime Preshot I believe I’ve ever seen
hi adrienne,
thanks for looking at kit's spreadsheet.
just to clarify, we did not shoot below 50.
we used a technique taught to us awhile ago which is referred to by some as "shoot the rise" and the first time that we implemented it we had elise watching our back.
the concept is documented in this sticky
https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...y-to-shoot-handle-lower-pre-shot-numbers.147/

below is the text i'm referencing in the sticky.
both of those sub bullet scenarios happen in kit's world.
last night we did the second sub bullet
feed a tsp or two of LC and retest. This is very tricky.

if you are further interested, i can point you to specific dates in kit's spreadsheet when the first sub bullet worked out and when neither option worked out and we skipped.

  • 40s or lower – you have a couple of choices.
    • When 40s occur at the end of the cycle, it can be beneficial to withhold food and test in 15-20 minutes to determine if kitty is on the rise or hasn’t reached nadir yet.
    • If they are hanging in the 40s for a while, or if they are still dropping, it is ok to feed a tsp or two of LC and retest. This is very tricky. You want to avoid feeding too much while you’re waiting for them to go over 50, because you don’t want to artificially inflate the number with food.
      • Example: if kitty is 43 and you feed a whole meal, or feed some HC, and the number bumps up to 52, is that the cat’s natural end-of-cycle rise, or is it food spike? What if it is food spike? Then if you shoot the 52, when the food wears off he might drop back to the 40’s (and when insulin kicks in a couple of hours later, you might have a problem). If the 52 is the cat’s natural rise, then he will probably keep rising for the next few hours until insulin kicks in. If you can’t tell whether the number is food spike or natural rise, it’s safest to wait. Your data will help you here. Study the spreadsheet. How much food spike does the cat usually get? How many hours after the shot does the insulin’s onset usually occur in this cat? At what number is the cat likely to be when onset occurs? If the cat does drop, how easy/hard is it to regain control of the numbers? How carb sensitive is he?

Thanks Joji. I am familiar with this sticky, but always good to review it. I've had Elise cover my back many times, thank goodness. Have a wonderful day both you and Kit!!!!

Paws crossed for a nice, flat, green cycle for Dolly today! She is off to a great start:D.

I hope so Lyla, her numbers suddenly got wonky, up and down. I am thinking it might be from the antibiotics. Poor Dolly, I’ve been hovering when she eats. Want her to eat well but not too fast, no gobbling. :nailbiting:o_O So afraid signs of her hyperthyroidism will show up. I will not do radiation. Talked with Sue about it, Dolly would be traumatized, probably any cat would. It may sound selfish, probably is on some levels. I believe She was traumatized with me being gone for a week. However they process someone disappearing from their world. She is always following me, actually gets in the way of the walker, no fear of that, or watching for me, staring at me. We treated our Funny Face’s hyperthyroidism with pills and then transdermal with no problem. May not be the case with Dolly. Maybe it will just disappear  paws crossed. Thank you, once again, listening to me vent. :woot::woot:
