I pulled the carb data from Lisa's and Tanya's food charts and added data I obtained either online or via email from the manufacturer. I did it because I wanted just the carb data in one place and be able to compare the numbers for a short list of brands that I buy. I think Lisa's numbers are % Metabolizable Energy (ME) carbs and Tanya's are % Dry Matter Basis (DMB) carbs. I put one or both from the manufacturers depending on what was available. I am not sure what is more appropriate for FD and if anyone knows, pray tell. Unfortunately, I didn't get any data from Fancy Feast. I am sharing it in case others might find it useful. I used Lisa's non-sortable food list because I think it might be the more accurate one although I am not sure. I found a lot of discrepancies between her non-sortable and sortable food lists so I had to pick one and the non-sortable looked like the best data to me. Also, I removed any discontinued foods I was aware of. This is arduous work and took a lot of time to do. I am more appreciative than ever of all the work Lisa and Tanya did to put their lists together. I hope others find this useful. If you want the excel spreadsheet let me know and I can email it to anyone who wants it.

Hard work, indeed :bighug::) I liked that you also made the trouble of removing all discontinued foods too. That would be a full time job in itself to staying on top of all the fast market changes. Way to go!

Also. Repost this in forum Tink Tank, so it doesn't get buried down here in Health.
I think all our Various Fast Moving Markets "Works In Progress" should be posted there, so we build up all new data and can edit as fast changing market changes again.
I vacuumed and combed through the Global World for all new pet meters for instance and put in Tink Tank, as well I started vacuum through the Global World for all new insulin biosimilars and also put that in Tink Tank. So I know where they are when continuing at some other points when, and if, time gives.

All new fast changing market data depends on people like you and me.

Hi,
When comparing carbohydrate in cat foods we compare on a 'percentage of calories' basis (as per Dr Lisa's list). But phosphorous is always best calculated on a dry matter basis.

There are a couple of online calculators that make the actual calculations quick and simple (see links below). ...This assumes, of course, that we have the correct data to do the calculation with, and with US foods there is the added challenge of many only having 'guaranteed analysis' data easily available which is not sufficiently accurate for a calculation.
To do the calculations we need either 'typical analysis' or 'current as fed' data. Sometimes this data will be on the manufacturer's website, and sometimes it has to be obtained by contacting the manufacturer. It doesn't matter if the data is wet or dry matter because the calculation removes the water content from the calculation anyway.

I do totally understand what time consuming work it can be to gather and collate cat food data, and I sympathise! :bighug:
(I maintain the UK food list and it is a constant ongoing process of trying to keep things up to date - utterly mind-numbing, haha!:D )

Just in case it's helpful, here's the links to the two calculators:

Thanks for clarifying. I don't really understand the difference but at least I know to use the %ME values for our sugar cats. Curious, what is the phosphorus level for CRF cats?

Edit: I just found the answer on Tanya's page: http://www.felinecrf.org/canned_food_usa.htm

phosphorus level under 0.5%. No complete non-therapeutic food can be that low, but you should aim to get as close to that as you can.

For the record, I did not do any of the calculations myself. I was happy to find the %DMB and %ME data were available online for a lot of the them. Wish Fancy Feast would do that. I emailed them and got a response to send at least 5 specific names of the product. I sent them all the names on Tanya's list and haven't heard anything since. :(
