Hi, everyone. I would appreciate help figuring out what would be an appropriate shot for Comet tonight. I have been waiting to hear back from the veterinary clinic and am worried about not hearing in time. I am a bit under 1-1/2 hours out from PMPS.

Comet got a shot for 1.4 units of Lantus this morning (after getting cerenia, budesonide, and having a good breakfast). And then went down fast. We use the FreeStyle Libre, and he registered as LO (under 50) for three hours. I repeatedly checked his numbers and fed him medium and higher carb food every twenty minutes and watched him like a hawk; he acted normally throughout and seemed fine. The Libre will sometime report LO when BG is actually in the 60s and sometimes 70s, and I know this, but it is really scary to see it and have it last that long; I have never seen it last that long before.

I know that with SLGS he would get a .25 reduction because he was definitely under 90. Should I reduce more than that because he went that low for so long? It is hard because I can't quantify how low he really was. I am worried that he will plummet back down again, but he will need something.

I apologize in advance for the spottiness of my charting for the last few weeks, I take notes every day but have been less than great about getting details into the chart. Thanks so much for your help.

I did reduce by .25. His PMPS was 498. He ate a decent dinner and had some nibbles before I went to bed at midnight, but it looks like he did not eat much during the night -- I just got up to clear that (two hours before AMPS). It looks like he briefly dropped to 95 around 3 a.m. but two hours later is up around 282. Will that reduction be enough for his AM shot? Will he be safe doing that or should I do more? These big swings scare me.

Hi Jenny your SS is not updated , could you please update it Thanks :cat:

How do you measure 1.4 units of Lantus? We typically measure in 0.25 unit increments on the syringe.

He's bouncing today - don't increase the dose, stick with the reduced dose. We dose based on how low the dose takes the cat, not the preshots. The previous dose took him too low. Did you by any chance double check the Libre Lo with a hand held meter? I've heard you should do that with Libre lows.

I eyeball it with the help of a loupe -- I have syringes that measure in half-units, so I went a little under 1.5. I have usually dosed in .25 unit increments but he is sensitive to small increases. Generally speaking, 1.25 has more recently been a little too low for him as it doesn't bring him down enough, but 1.5 is sometimes too high and brings him down too much. I will stick with the reduced dose tonight, thank you! How many cycles do you think it would be before the bounce clears?
